Have recently been introduced to operating system called Ubuntu and I have downloaded it on to a disc but not too sure about replacing Windows even though I have heard good things about it. I also use Firefox 3.6 which I much prefer to IE8. Any comments please?

Linux is great if you understand it.
I can understand some C++ and C# but Linux still is baffling me.

hi i recently took a chance and bought second hand on ebay an acer aspire netbook for £70. a computer engineer friend converted it for me from linex to xp and fitted a new battery and now i can take it to the pub and click on. it is very slow booting up and running. it may have to go back to my mate for him to "clean up " the systems!

I have installed and played around with various Linux distros and though they can be a bit tricky and sometimes hard to get working with certain bits of hardware, they generally run fast and have lots of free open source software available in the repositories. That said, I've never found them useable enough to consider keeping and using on a day-to-day basis. I'm also not at all keen on the latest version of ubuntu which has become rather tablet/netbook oriented and far less customisable than before.

I like it but so tied into windows that I haven't completed a full transfer over to Linux yet but intend to.
Having said that I will probably keep a windows machine as back up.

You don't have to give up on your Windows 10 laptop/desktop, I've installed Ubuntu on my laptop as a dual boot which gives you the best of both worlds.
