Shropshire and Wrekin Councils have both put their weight behind a radical new proposal for the 2 Conference teams to develop a groundsharing scheme based at Oteley Rd. Under the new proposals, Wrekin would buy back the New Bucks Head site and develop it as an outdoor swimming and leisure complex. This would effectively involve lowering the playing surface and converting it to an outdoor pool with solar heating supplemented by a hot air ducting system from Council Offices.
The Meadow site will then become a Marina / Luxury Appartment development, with facilities for rowing, kayaking and a traditional Coracling Centre which will be backed by the Heritage Trust.
Costs for developing the Oteley Rd site will be split 60/40 between the 2 Clubs, with Shrewsbury being the major partner. Existing plans will be used, as there is no need for a more extensive site. It is hoped initial work will commence by Jan 2005, once legal and planning hurdles have been addressed.
