Reading the Room 101 Thread reminded me of something I hate about football which I've never understood and that I would get rid of if I could. Why is it that when a ball runs towards the goal line and is slowly going out a defender can muscle his way between the ball and an opponent until the ball is dead, yet it never gets given as obstruction? Or, in the dying minutes of a game, the opposition can take the ball into a corner and "guard it" to waste time? Every team does it - why? If refs blew for obstruction and awarded indirect free kicks, we'd see a lot more positive football instead of boring defensive stuff. Anyone able to explain it?

You worries are over.
John Peel put it in Room 101 a couple of series back.

Agree 100%, this has been a pet hate of mine for a few years, full backs usher the ball out of play using tactics which would be a foul anywhere else on the pitch and in many cases a booking. Perhaps Mr Blatter should be looking at this rather than some of the other ideas he seems to support so strongly, the going off the pitch after getting treatment for a genuine injury for instance.

You mean like Keepers used to be able to dribble the ball back and forth across their areas and pick it up everytime a player came near - till the Rule was changed to stop time-wasting?

and then fifa introduced a time wasting rule so keepers can take the ball the opposide side to where it went out to take a goal kick
