Yes, out you go.
But those street performers at Covent Garden who stand perfectly still until someone puts money into their hat and then come alive are fantastic.

........And it would have saved us from having to listen to that Eurovision "performance" last year ;D
Understandable for SOME TV given sound technicalities - maybe....but any others....bin 'em.

Down they go!
People pay to see such people display their talent, to mime is to deprive them of such.

Since I nominated it, I should explain I suppose. Tickets to say, an S Club 7 (RIP ) gig cost about £25. An ex girlfriend of mine took me to see them. Mimed all the way through. I asked her why we had bothered (great at the whole sucking up to the other half lark obviously ;D) and she said 'for the music and the crowd'. WE WERE JUST LISTENING TO A BLOODY CD, BEING MIMED BY 7 TALENTLESS LOSERS, IN A CROWD OF DANCING FOOLS. Why couldn't we have just stayed in, put that CD on, and saved £25? Makes no sense I tell you...

It takes a lot of talent to mime convincingly and to execute complicated dance moves at the same time. Would you rather see an expertly choreographed, entertaining SHOW or four listless indie kids strumming half heartedly and murmuring their interminable minor key dirges lifelessly into a microphone. Yes, Coldplay, I'm looking at you.
Innit.

IF you want a good show with live singing, you should have gone to Eclipse in Blackpool last year.
IF you want a live band with a great display of showmanship, try Iron Maiden or the Darkness, and retrospectively, Queen.
IF you want to see 4/5/6/7/8 talentless zombies prancing about like munchkins on speed rather than showing they can do what they're supposed to be able to do - SING, then go ahead, but don't expect me to join you!

Anyone else remember seeing Gene Pitney at The Granada in Shrewsbury in about 1968 - 1969? Don't let me be the only one, please!

Um, wasn't being entirely serious there.
I remember the debate in the early 80s when bands like New Order and the Cocteau Twins started putting large amounts of their live set on tape. Didn't stop them being good bands.
I'd rather see the Sugarbabes than Coldplay, but then I'd also rather see Skullflower than Busted...

My point being (he said, replying to his own post) that if some 14 year old girl wants to see an all dancing, costume changing extravaganza, and the band think they have to mime to put on a decent show, where's the harm in that? Whereas if you want to go and see a sweaty rock band upstairs in a pub, you can. Can't go putting stuff into Room 101 on that basis...
Anyway, I'm off for a meeting about shelving now.

Some many moons ago my brother's mate took his girlfriend to see the Bay City Rollers, the concert seemed to be going well, you could clearly tell the lead singer was singing, but there was something "amiss" about the music the group was playing--it was spot on to the tracks that were recorded. This was until someone in their "trickster nature" decided to turn off the backing tape ;D
Concert abruptly ended

I can remember how gutted I was when I found out that the lead singer of Black Box was miming to ride on time. I thought she was a stunner and then I found out it wasn't even her singing on the song in the first place. Throw all mimers in 101 and while your at it chuck in boy bands too!!

Blackbox I'll get me coat I remember that, apparently the original singer or the one with voice didnt have the look that Blackbox wanted, so they got the good looker to mime.

Ride on Time was an awesome song. Get the mimers in Room 101. The best thing I've ever seen in Covent Garden was a tramp chalking a huge picture with a sun on it, and 'All you need is love' written on it. He was however going absolutely mental at anyone who stepped near it, and bemoaning the lack of cash being thrown his way. On the other hand, a little dwarve was breakdancing and spinning wheels on his toes and receiving stacks of money. Which wasn't pleasing the tramp. Cue massive argument. Ratcliffesghost, I felt that John Redwood knew the Welsh National Anthem better than most English people know their anthem, which is............

Keep music live, yeah.
Doesn't matter if the band are pants, as long as their not miming...
Oh, and death to disco while we're at it.
These modern bands, you can't hear the words.
Is that a boy or a girl?
Dribble.

Yes, they've just released a cover of "Never Understand" in the style of Milli Vanilli. Next big thing- bit of rap, bit of soft punk, big trousers.

Right once again I can't put peters selection into room 101 it would mean also having to put the best band ever 'QUEEN' into 101. Queen had the cheek to nip off for a cup of tea whilst a recorded bit of Bohemian Rhapsody blurted away in front of a live audience. Never mind Peter your next choice will be along shortly
