The sun came up this morning - just like yesterday, but some things have changed and Shropshire is just that bit different. For most of us our motivation for going about our daily lives is more or less the same, but for a squad of players (if they can stay together) and a small but loyal bunch of fans, their whole outlook has been shaken by a massive tremor - one which could yet bring their world tumbling down. How will they cope? What will the next 24 hrs hold for them? Or the next, and the next - it could be a long end to the season - maybe an end fullstop?
As you'd expect at times like these, we all search through our consciences looking for scr@ps of comfort and help; - me, I'll be at the Bucks to see them play Canvey Island. Likewise there are goodwill gestures being poilshed and giftwrapped by thousands of well wishers and football fans across the land.
But what of our band of merry men? What of James Quinn esq and his team? How will their outlook and motivation be altered? Well, if Mick Jones' announcement that he's working for nothing till the end of the season doesn't hit a nerve, nor the plight of their fellow professionals - and to a large extent, mates doesn't rekindle some passion, then something is wrong in the psyche of the club we all love. If a reminder of how fragile are the foundations which underpin the industry are were needed, we all got a Fedex first class, direct to the door reminder yesterday. Some of our lads who play like they are doing us a favour should have gotten a big wake up call - the bell they hear ringing might well toll for them if they don't shape up.
Lets hope as the sun sets tomorrow, it leaves a rosy glow over the Shrews, and brings some warmth and comfort to our neighbours in Wellington.
