Until we ditch the small timers running our club we're going nowhere. They've ruined us as surely as any club that goes millions into debt. What's the point of having money in the bank if you've got no ambition to go forward? Some of the players we've got have undeniable talent but we just seem to bring out the worst in them. Why is that? At the moment we look like a small-time club happy to tick along in non-league football. I don't think we'll make the play-offs now. In fact I'll go even further than that. I don't think we'll win again this season and Quinn will be sacked. Our crowds have held up well this year but I don't think they will next year. I'm starting to think we're pretty much finished as a club after last season, the problems with the new ground and the poor standards on the pitch. Forest Green, Tamworth, Leigh RMI etc - add Canvey Island, Crawley and Hucknall to that list and I'm starting to think what's the point.

Don't be ridiculous. This is just typical reactionary rubbish after witnessing only your 6th defeat this season.
Just be thankful you are not in Boro or Halifax's position.

I have met him and he seems and probably is a nice chap and other than managing the football side of STFC I havent a single problem with him.

He was predicting you won't win another game this season, and with Gravesend at home and Farnborough away to come, I don't think so.
It's typical that in the heat of the moment some posters don't think before they submit and just write the first irrational stuff that comes into their head.

Simon, a couple of questions:
1) What do you think of our away form 2) Is our team (the most expensive in the league with the biggest support, and well established players) underachieving.
Then get back to us.
As for sacking the board, the only person currently in a position to replace them is one of our biggest threats - Colin poole.
I think we need to start moving towards a Supporters Trust asap. I'll donate my shares to it.

I understand what your saying SimonR...but what did you take from last nights performance that suggests we can beat Gravesend at home and Farnborough away?

Then get back to us. As for sacking the board, the only person currently in a position to replace them is one of our biggest threats - Colin poole. I think we need to start moving towards a Supporters Trust asap. I'll donate my shares to it. (1) Not great but not disastrous, just too many draws - I'd better pass judgement when you come to Underhill later. (2) Perhaps but you have to remember that you can have the best players in the world but it takes time (a) gell and play consistently together as team if they have only been at STFC for a few months (cf Ranieri's expensively assembled squad at Chelsea, everyone automatically assumed that they would cruise to the Premiership title, but it hasn't quite worked out like that) (b) acclimatize to playing in non-league football which is a whole lot different in style to Div.3. In addition, other factors can creep in - complacency, lack of motivation against so-called weaker opposition, lesser teams always treating their game against you as a cup final - again the Chelsea factor. Playing devil's advocate (or so it seems, judging by the majority of opinion on this board!) I can see why JQ has been given a 2-year contract, the first year is to consolidate but at the same time aim for at least a play-off place, the second is hopefully to win the league and return in better shape that when you came down. Without meaning to sound patronising, you must appreciate that the conference is a very difficult league to win promotion at the first attempt. As the Telford fan was pointing out earlier, only Lincoln and Darlington have made an instant return, the norm nowadays is 5-6 years before you can hope to regain league status.

I understand what your saying SimonR...but what did you take from last nights performance that suggests we can beat Gravesend at home and Farnborough away? Because you haven't lost a game against bottom half opposition, and by all accounts you seem to be able to grind out victories against weaker opponents without playing particularly well. I didn't see last night's game, but it seems to be that it is against the better sides where you have been found wanting.

If we don't go straight back up then I could just about live with that - but not making the play-offs is a disaster for us. We're the biggest club ever to be relegated into this division - we're not a non-league yo-yo side like Barnet, Scarboro and Halifax. How many Conference clubs have played in what is now division one for more than one season? The answer is one and it's us and we were there for 10 years. I've got a ticket for the Hereford game and I'll go but unless we show a bit more guts, fight and passion that'll be it for me for this year. I guess what I'm saying is bar a complete change in attitude at our club Saturday is my last game for while and potentially a long while. Our main problem on the pitch is we don't play like a team - as suggested in tonight's Shropshire Star. The player's don't show enough heart. From what I've seen this season my harshest criticism would go to Cramb - a posing show-pony who should be boiled up for glue. Other under-achievers in my book would be Rodgers and Tolley (they clearly belive they're too good for this league - how wrong they are). Of the rest some of them are either simply not good enough (Sedgemore), past it (O'Connor), over-rated (Aiston) or they've got an attitude problem (Lowe). These words sound harsh I know but I've now gone past the end of my tether.
