Yeh Clarkey seemed to be so cool in the box.. didnt rush his shots and could pass them into the net. We could do a bit of that now.
Yeh the hereford goal was a screamer.. long distance.
I loved the carl griffiths diving header away at burnley in the cup.. maybe 92/93? not sure. Very aggressive atmosphere on the way out. Also remebr Adrian heath nealry breaking carl grifiths' leg in the replay.

One of my all-time favourite STFC goals - great run down the left wing from Mark 'Zico' Taylor, fantastic cross and bullet header from Griff. Made a few quid from all the coins that were being thrown at us from the Burnley fans too

Paul Evans, Stockport 96?
was that when he sort of a lobbed the keeper possibly Paul Jones from what seemed like an impossible angle?

Aye it was.
Can anyone remember Evo scoring a 'boring' goal from open play?

Two of my favourites were scored within two minutes of eachother and by the same player.
Micky Brown, at the time on loan from Bolton, against Crewe in 92/93. The first he picked the ball up in our own area, ran to the other end beating about 1,000 players then lobbing the keeper.
They kicked off and lost it, we gave it to Brown on the halfway line, he ran through them again and this time stuck it through the keeper's legs. We won 4-1. A great game.
Endorse all the others on here too, that Clarke goal was great. Anyone remember a similar one at home to Wrexham? They were 2-0 up in 12 minutes, from the kick-off he scored from miles out. That one finished 2-2.
Evo, too many to mention though that Stockport one was special.
Darren Currie on his debut against Swansea too, having arrived on loan from West Ham. He picked it up by the corner flag and headed along the line towards goal before shooting from an impossible angle. That finished 3-3.

That Wrexham game was the last home league game I missed before last night - I was gutted to miss it. Even more so when I saw the highlights and Clarke's awesome goal.

What about in more recent times, Sam Aiston with another long run and shot at Lincoln? Lowe scored a great free-kick as well. Two up at half-time but they pegged us back for a draw. All this reminiscing is cheering me up! Best thread on the board at the minute!!!

ChrisH, are you sure Brown got two goals in that game? Off the top of my head I would have said Taylor (though it a big deflection), Brown, Griffiths and Lynescored the goals in a 4-1 victory. Lyne might have been the one who lobbed the keeper. I do remember the Mickey Brown run though (down the Riverside attacking the Wakeman) but can't remember the finish.

Craig, I bow to your superior memory! Now I think about it, Browny was definitely the one to lob the keeper but it was indeed Neil Lyne who got the one straight from the kick-off, putting it through the keeper. Still a great goal though!

That was a good afternoon, a big crowd and an excellent result with 3 brilliant goals. Who would have thought we would be 3 divisions apart only 11 years later

Mickey Brown's goal away at Lincoln Bank Holiday Weekend 9394 Simple goal, 0-1 away from home and put us top of Div3. A million miles away in less than 10 years..

A great goal at Lincoln but your memory is deceiving you on the going top thing. We went top for the first time that year with a 2-1 Tuesday night win at Rochdale courtesy of a last minute Dave Walton winner (a classic for that reason alone!!!) and stayed there for the rest of the season...

The board thought they could occupy mid-table Div2 for a season or two and didn't set out to bring any players with talent into the side. Plus having the old 'warhorses' Clarke and Somerfield in the side who were overdue the pasture fields. We were content to drift ambitionless and rudderless. lets be honest Fred D's decision making process made JQ's look quite rational!!!! ;D ;D ;D

So it all went wrong because of Kevin Summerfield and Wayne Clarke?

No the board should have realised that those two players were past their prime, and should have invested in a couple of decent replacements.however they chose to sit on their hands and do nothing.
