What is the normal range of a Wi Fi signal , I see various points in town marked as hot spots ?

Dirty boy To be honest, a Wi Fi signal's strength varies on the transmitting unit. Hot spots in a Town would tend to have shorter ranges as you'd be expected to use them in the location they're meant for. On average a home unit would have a 20 or 30 foot range I think. Again though, you can buy a transmitter with a big range and you can buy it with a long range - there's no fixed distance. It's all about power...
