Just been listenin to 5live and heard about the Rome derby.
Aparently at the start of 2nd half with the score 0-0, restlessness in the Roma end and two Ultras got onto pitch and went to speak to Francesco Totti.
They told him a child had been killed by a police van before the match and that they didnt think the game should continue. After about 20 mins and a 22+ man discussion Totti decided he didnt want to play.
The match was suspended and later police said that no-one had been killed!
Anyone see this? Heard anything like it before?

A few years ago an under performing Lazio team and manager faced about 50 Lazio fans for a bit of a chat, so basically the fans who tell them what for. by the end of the evening the fans had "sacked" 6 of the squad plus the reserve manager.
"Street, Lowe and Cramb I would like a word" ;D

Did anyone see the 3 part documentary on hooliganism on BBC2 around 2 years ago? One of the parts featured Italian football.
The fans are extremely powerful there, and in many cases it's linked to politics very very strongly.
In one instance the Lazio fans were so píssed off with the season their side was having they decided on a silent protest at the next home game - if Lazio scored they wouldn't cheer. Suffice to say Lazio won 5-0 and every goal was greeted with silence.

In The Guardian, they reckoned that the violence was preplanned. Apparently as the crowd was leaving the stadium the police a mauling, it sounded like a pitched battle.

Ant, I saw that TV show. Some people did have the nerve the cheer the 5th goal, and got badly beaten up for doing so. Makes anything I have ever been in the middle of seem like a walk in the park.

Lazio are my favourite European team. I especially approve of their policies for team selection
