because even if we do get there we don't look like a team with the balls for the big occasion and the football we have watched this year has been torture! still, could be worse, we could be about to lose to Canvey and have no hope in the league!

It's not a qualm with "only" being in the play offs. If we were playing well and looking like a complete unit I wouldn't have a problem.
It is not about last night either. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. I lost faith with Quinn ages ago.
We kept our rising stars after relegation and have added some good signings. Man for man we have a team that should potentially be fighting for the championship.
Instead we find a team that is constantly chopped and changed playing to a multitude of systems. Result is the players don't know what the hell is expected of them half the time and as a result have consistently under performed in what is a very poor league.
And there is where my gripe lies. As far as I'm concerned JQ has shown himself to be not up to the job. He has probably the best squad and best budget to work with in this league and so far he has been tactically inept and woefully lacking in the motivation of his players. Any one who thinks differently is walking round blindfolded.
He hasn't got what it takes, end of, go now please. There's your coat the door is on the left, goodbye.

It's a crap league hence why we're 4th, we're very lucky to be in that position

And there you have it!! Very good post once again Bellevue Shrew...spot on our kid...
Regarding Quinn, I just think he needs to get both his best formation and first eleven sorted and keep to it...I just think that he is over complicating things when there is really no need to do so...
My big concern is if he keeps constantly chopping and changing players, systems and formations we'll not make the play-offs, nevermind promotion...
Lets get a settled side and keep to it...

I can see what’s coming already now – after Tuesday its like the sky’s have finally cleared – We will win sat and then on Tuesday, pretty much guaranteeing a playoff place – stumble through the rest of the league campaign probably getting hammered by Chester or Hereford (or both) then we head into the playoffs – the whole town gets behind the team as we play Aldershot – who stifle us at home with a good defensive match and then find it all to easy at there place as we freeze/bottle it/lack concentration (delete as appropriate), at which point finally the coin should drop as it becomes apparent that JQ is not skilled enough to manage a top 5 conf side.
Pilch – I would have been happy with a play off place – but not they way we have gone about it, and I would have thought that we would have at least challenged for the title.

Many on this board seem to be happy to predict failure but uncomfortable predicting success even though, IMO there is a thin line between the two.
To say that Aldershot will come to the meadow and defensively shut us out is as as ridiculous as saying Chester will go on a losing run.
both are possible but the facts dont point towards them:
Aldershot have conceded 33 goals in 17 away matches and have won 2 and lost 2 of thier last 4 away.
Chester have only drop 4 points from their last 10 matches.
Also Chester havent won away to a top 6 side this season and we've only played 5 matches against top 6 opposition (3 away from home) which is the least of all conference clubs.
How you can say we are bottlers when one of those matches was our best of the season, is ridiculous. Only lost by 1 at Exeter and Chester when deserving of more, and drew at Aldershot. The only REALLY substandard perfromance I can think of against top opposition is Barnet at home.
We're not even halfway through playing top 6 teams and already we're going to lose them all, I think some on here are looking through black specs rather than blue and amber ones!

Your post could be made just as applicable to support the other side of the argument.
Taking into account our away form the stats against higher placed teams looks even worse.

This season...
1) Chester away 2) Dagenham away 3) Stevenage away 4) Woking away 4) Barnet at home 5) Sc***horpe away x2 6) Leigh away 7) Tamworth away 8) FGR away 9) TUFC home (league) 10) Margate at home
all games I can think of within 60 seconds of redading your post where we should have got more from the game than we did, either by not taking chances, or by getting in front and then blowing it, or by trying to hang on for a point and letting in a goal
The only defence anyone can give is Hereford at home, which was awesome, but don't be blinded by it
I want Shrewsbury Town to get into the play offs and win and get promoted to the football league
I will support them for the rest of the season
But I am losing faith in their ability to do it

I know Ant, that’s the point I’m making, its as realistic to assume we are going up as it is to assume we are going to fail, so lets try and be a little more optimistic!
We could easily have got at least 5 points from those away games against top 6 sides and its not as if we didn’t turn up to any of them. Games like these turn on small things.
I think I’m pretty realistic and I can honestly see us beating Chester, Exeter and Aldershot at home and getting something at Barnet, and thats even on current form.
Exeter only drew at Northwich on Tuesday, Aldershot haven’t got the best away record, and Barnet have only got 8 points from their last 6 home games.
