Hostel Boathouse is £4 a night - depends if you want to be lumped with load of americans who although having travelled halfway across the world to a city full of culture decided to stop in playing cluedo sorry, waffling - Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square and the Castle are a must. Climb the tower for really good views of the city. Also you should find the Astronomical Clock which is just off one of the main squares and performs on the hour. Apparenly the bloke who built it had his eyes put out by a poker so he couldnt make another one!! I quite enjoyed the Torture Museum as well but maybe thats just me ;D

There is a brilliant restaurant in the Malastrana area (below the castle) - its called U Zlaty Hud (the Golden snake) and is on a street called Plaska. They have a huge wine cellar which you can choose from and the food is fantastic - definitely the best I have experienced IMO. Also worth a visit is U Fleku (a proper Czech beer hall which has its own brewery attached) - you don't have to order drinks, the waiters bring the local brew until you tell them to stop. There's also an old man who walks round playing the accordian (although when we were there in early February, he was having some strong competition off a customer playing the bagpipes) ;D There are basically loads of great restaurants and things to do. My other tips are: Travel the funicular railway up Petrin Hill, go up the observation tower for great views over the whole city (but do it early morning before the tourists), go to U Maleho Glena for jazz, and the Strahov Monastry above the castle is also worth a visit for some culture.

Can't find details of where we stayed sadly. Can recommend the castle and try to take in a game if you can (depends on who you are going with of course !), we managed to watch a UEFA Cup game at Sparta which cost us about 50p or something daft - average quality apart from Poborsky's goal near the end.
However just waiting for Tim Gallon's post on his recommendations for places to visit (do you remember Denise TG ??).

LOL,, i have Denise to thank for my "fairy soft" hands, god bless her. I would mention something about Bulgarians, but in the words of Freddy West - "NO COMMENT SIR!" Youll have a top time mate, Prague is fantastic, been twice but would go again. One piece of advice though there are no barriers on the underground but buy a ticket. Me and Carter got rumbled by the ticket police, mind you the fine was so low i was tempted to give them a tip when i had to pay up!! ;D ;D

Good to see so many B & A users are such well travelled and cultural folf (and folkesses). It might be interesting to start a thread (as in the players profiles in the programmes) about peoples's favourite holiday destinations. In fact I might just do that now!
