When anyone next visits betfair press the "wheres the money" button and it will show you the biggest live markets. Unbelievably (I think) the biggest current market is 4 million pounds (2.7m matched, 1.3m waiting to be matched) on who will be the next Spurs manager Just to put last nights 1.1million bet on the Town game into perspective, Middlesborough v spurs has attracted just 62k at 6.45pm

Would that count as an unusual betting pattern?
If those who were naughty, and tried to influenced reults thought about it, would a lower level game like that be a "better" target for them?
Would an odd result at conference level raise less suspicion than one at a higher level?
How do they monitor things and what would class as an unusual betting pattern?
Interested to know!

I could bore you for hours on this subject and probably will sometime! There are 8 "betting intelligence officers" employed by the jockey club, when one of them dies/moves on I'm after their job big style (have applied in the past ). Basically its a ratio analysis based on averages for leagues, usual level of betting on those particular clubs, other markets taking up betting shares on that day, expert in-hose analysis on the degree of certainty of the outcome of the event etc, etc. Funnily enough I have spotted an unusual one tonight the "asian handicap" betting (where the away team is given a hyperthetical one goal start) in the west ham v wimbledon game is well out of kilter. West ham have attracted far more bets than is usual for them in this scenario. Probably be an enquiry here

West Ham 5 Wimbledon 0 Spooky That Got to say it smelt bad an hour before kick off. A telephone call I received 15 mins before kick off confirming the two largest bets on that particular market (and the name of one of the pro gamblers involved!) confirmed my doubts. Very definately a case to be answered. As usual finding court acceptable proof and people willing to verify anything will be practically impossible, but there was enough "evidence" there before a ball was kicked I think. Hmmmmmmmmmm !
