It's over 10 years since the mailing list got up and running, and coming up for 10-years of shrewsweb in july....
blimey...
if anyone has any old print outs or knows where there may be any old copies of the site on the web then please get in touch.
i'd have kept backups if i knew it was going to last this long.

I was just starting uni in the summer of 1994 and remember discovering the internet for the first time. I was on the mailing list and used the Shrewsbury Town Info Page as it was then. It was a fantastic resource for someone like me, living away from the town for the first time. Don't remember many of the mailing list regulars apart from Ian and a guy called Dave Perks (had something to do with the football exhibition last year I believe.)
Remember writing a few match reports and sending them out on the list and Whitters putting them on the site, it was my first attempts at journalism!!!
Thanks to Ian for all his effort over the years, they are happy memories...

Awesome effort by the boy Whitters.
I've only been on the net since 1999 and can only remember fleeting visits to shrewsweb etc. before that on the rare occasions we used to get in school to use the only computer in the school with internet access!
Keep up the good work old lad

congrats on being 10 yrs old! maybe if you had done a website that made loads of cash like you could in those days you could have been minted and bought up STFC. Mind you if you had youd still be getting s**t off Sean Brosely

i remember my my mates mum ringing 0898 from the phone up by the anchor and caught her son online (it wasn't a sick coincidence, her last itemised bill was huge and he promised not to use the phone again to phone the chatline he was using) must say it was funny as four of us were on his 2 house phones and on came this woman "CHRISTOPHER YOU WAIT TIL I GET HOME IN 2 MINUTES" i didn't hang around for the castration

Starting using the mailing list close to 10 years ago, kept me going through my days of tedium when working at Fruit of the Loom in Telford! Remember you asking me to demonstrate your original website Ian, at the club open day as you couldn't make it for some reason! It was when Mickey Brown had just returned for his third stint at the club and all the players gathered around to view their profiles that you'd set up! Unfortunately you hadn't had chance to set up Mickey's profile, and embarrassingly had to explain that he wasn't on there! Still, the rest of the team, Evo, Dempsey and co. gave him loads of stick for that, which the heat off me! Come a long way since then - well done Ian! Btw had a few beers so apologies for rambling! Only person I recognise on here from the good ol' days apart from Ian is Cuyohoga Blue Rich Cole. Anyone else....?

shrewsweb poped into life on july 12th 95, it was the mailing list that started in 94....
the joys of having a sun machine, majordomo and root access.

I also first came online in '99, and remember feeling quite surprised at the popularity of the mailing list, so some idiot decided to open up a message board and take everyone away from there

Aye, Ian...good days indeed!!
I've told you before our kid but I'll tell you again. I really did and do appreciate your time and efforts with regards to the mailing list and ShrewsWeb. As a Town fan living over in Rugeley it was an excellent source for all things Shrewsbury Town and a great place to discuss Town matters with other Town fans!! And I know your not shy in helping me out with questions and help to this day, so thanks for that too...
Well played our kid, well played...
Would be nice to meet and have pint at some point...
I don't recall having anything to do with any museum but I am Dave Perks and was on the mailing list...

*lol* I know what you mean schizo...it was good to join the list as it was a comfort that there were other Town fans out there!! Very important for a lad who was (and still is I guess) the only Town fan from Rugeley!! ;D

I don't recall having anything to do with any museum but I am Dave Perks and was on the mailing list... Sorry, stuttgarter, think I meant Adrian, sure his surname was Perks tho. Any relation? It was he who organised the football grounds exhibition at Rowley's House that everyone was raving about earlier this season...

Managed to dig out this old article written by Dan F for my old (now very out of date) website. Got some interesting stuff about the history of Shrewsbury on the net. If anyone wants to take it, modify it and update it and stick up on B&A you would be welcome... www.shrewsonline.co.uk/stfcinternethistory.htm

i joined the mailing list in 1998 as i left shrewsbury for university: it was while typing up an essay on descartes that i received the email telling me jake king had been sacked. cue a sudden 'ABOUT ****ING TIME!!' shout in the middle of a quiet computer room full of 100 concientious undergraduate souls. i got my coat soon after...
thanks for everything ian et al., it's much appreciated by this exile.

I was in the Language Labs in Aberystwyth University when that fateful email came through Robspaceman!
The email list and message board since helped me rekindle my love of my football club that slipped a little during Jake's reign of dour football.
Whilst our league position has taken us to the edge of the play-offs and now the depths of the conference, my love of the club has remained unbeaten.
Well done Whitters.

Still going!
Drifts in and out of being either incredibly busy (10 emails in an hours) or mostly, pretty well deserted.

I first moved to Ohio in 1984 - I kept in touch by Shropshire Star reports sent airmail by my parents! The maillist, which was publicised on a majordomo list for lowerdivision teams, was a godsend. And then ShrewsWeb, and then B&A and now live commentary! I used to wait a week for the score Names I haven't seen in a long time are Rob Humphreys of Swansea and his brother in Powys. Glyn Watson was another regular. My favourite "old" article/message was from Barnet Mad Ken and his efforts to get to Carlisle - it was a real classic - I wish I'd kept it
