To be fair, I think opinion was pretty divided on Bates appointment and he has come in for plenty of criticism on here over the season

Has indeed Pat you are right. He seemed to have been brought back to please the supporters. Dave Fogg was/is a fine Reserve Team Manager, but it wouldnt go down well him returning would it.

i just find chic kind of untrustworthy. It is all just to convenient. He wants Quinns job. every loss he feels is his gain. very unhappy about it overall. talk about a no lose situation for the guy

I see no particular problem with Chic Bates. I'd prefer him being an assistant to Ian Atkins, but unfortunately that didn't happen. This is the Quinn Reaper's team.
Don't think many people who didn't give the impression they were "in the know" in some way opposed it. They just couldn't understand Bates and Cook.
Bates has worked pretty high in the game so I'm prepared to accept he knows something about it. But again, he isn't the boss.

I find this thread unbelievable,1st Dave fogg, talk to anyone in the know down the meadow and he was hated by the younger lads because all he did was bully them,he was a complete knob.As to how anybody can knock chic is beyond me,we dont know what input he as in trainning,he might just put the cones out as far as we know. But what we do know is chic as achieveved far more than jq in his coaching career. Quinn out,Bates in

a kingmaker if ever i saw one isn't it strange when people use words in a conversation with you and then they turn up on messageboard a few days later as an unsolicited post.

Just what I was talking about on annother thread, what utter tosh! Do any of you personally know that Chic is somehow detrimental to the team, that hes trying to stab Quinny in the back? A random joke post has turned into a real topic of conversation, Unbelievable!

personnally i would trust ronnie biggs with the keys to fort knox more than chic bates with the well being of STFC, he should never have been allowed back through the gates.......what he done when he was manager was great but thats in the past, next we will ask for KR to come back

Shakey on a Chic Bates thread, never Just wanted to say about Dave Fogg, he wasn't a bully and where ever you get that information from, i would seriously go back and check. As for calling him names, rather childish i think, but ask yourself the same questions you have asked about Chic. Can you answer them ? If not then i seriously suggest your very careful how you word your opinions

I have to say Dave Fogg is one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet and he always said hi when he saw me.In his defense,if he was such a bad coach why did he end up at Blackpool?.The same goes for Chic.Did he not carry on at Celtic for a while after Lou Macari was sacked, can't be that bad then.

an interesting thread.
just like why wasnt chic employed after leaving Celtic is an intersting question as to why hasnt the mighty Steve Cotterall been employed after his efforts at Sunderland.
BTW.. Dave Geddis...what a player for STFC and is still the head coach at Newcastle United.

Nobody will be complaining when Jimmy and Chic lead us into the play-offs (at the very least).
Neither of them is daft and they do take heed of what the fans are saying. I don't think Jimmy will pick himself again this season - the message has sunk in.
The only thing which I can see holding us back is a run in the pointless FA Trophy.
I think we got the team selection right against Morecambe - youngsters, fringe players and those coming back from injury only.
Keep it like that for the Hucknall game and don't risk any key players.
The fact we're fifth with a game or two in hand and Chester still to play at home is a miracle as far as I'm concerned after what happened last season.
Apart from the Hereford game it hasn't been much fun to watch but we're in there with a shout so we can't grumble too much.

"I don't think Jimmy will pick himself again this season - the message has sunk in."
Not if his latest comments are anything to go by!
"I think we got the team selection right against Morecambe - youngsters, fringe players and those coming back from injury only."
The XI against Morecambe were pretty much the only players available on the day, it pretty much selected itself

Why is opinion so divided on Chic Bates there seems to be no middle-ground, its either like or loathe him why?.

The reason that opinion is so divided is some see Chic as a Town legend (yes as a player he was) but why keep coming back in any coaching capacity? Others maybe can see through him, realise that he isn't the wonder coach he would like us to think he is. His return this time was a political one, helped deflect things away from the Board and Quinn get fans on his side. (those who like him of course ) For those who keep going back to him being a coach, assistant or whatever under Macari (a yes man ) therefore making him good at his job, here is a question for you. If we get promoted this season and Quinn then continues the momentum and gets us up or nearly up next season, then is head hunted moves on and does ok elsewhere, he would take Cook with him, probably. So does that make Cook a good coach, assistant or whatever (yes man ) ? For me Bates was out of work for 12 months. If he was that good, why didn't he get a job elsewhere? Fogg did and people have slaughtered him on here. Can't be that bad a coach then. There is a hidden agenda with Bates, which means for me a lack of trust.

A lot of hypothetical questions there Frankwell CP and one amazing statement.
How do you know Bates has a hidden agenda?
Do not forget Bates was shown the door after the ITV digital debarcle. So has he said forgive and forget.
As for Dave Fogg and his coaching abilities all I can comment on is that for the most of last season our two centre halfs (whoever they were) were next to useless. Was this Foggs department or the manager. A manager who I put as one of the greatest centre halfs every to play in the English game. Whereas the season before we were a win in the final game away from the playoffs.
One fact is certain. Whoever is manager/coach there will be fans who do not care for him.
I along with most Town fans thought Kevin Ratcliffe was a good manager for STFC when he was given the job. I think we can safely say we were wrong.
I remember the day Graham Turner was announced as player/manager thinking this is going to be a disaster.
What do we know, mere fans.

Why is there a hidden agenda? Its my understanding that Quinny knew Chic from his days at Swindon. He still lives in the area, Quinn rates him and gets him in.
I don’t know anything about Chic really and therefore my comments might be a bit naive to those who know more about the man. I am one of those rare people that neither hates or loves the man.
All I know is that when he was brought in by Jake to control the youth set up, there didn’t seem to be the same kind reaction as there is now.
I think he did a good job when he was in charge of the youth set up and the development of Luke and Jamie would support that. Again I don’t know the ins and outs but if you know something either say it or keep quiet!

In fairness Shakey, Joe did not introduce Dave Fogg into the equation on this thread. some guest did, maybe the same one that started the thread, who knows? Thats what is so annoying about this board. Anyone wanting to stir s**t can.
We have got who we have got as coach/manager etc so lets get behind them and the team and stop all this silly talk of hidden agendas and rumourmongering.
