Time to get some views
Is everyone happy with the way the board currently is ? (ie guests can post whatever they want)
or
it is possible to prevent guests from actually starting a thread but still allowing them to reply to one
or
stop guests posting altogether
as far as i can see there are plus's and minus's for all options but i'd like to get everyones opinion before/if and changes are made
cheers

I have never liked the idea of members only forums in regards to football. It would mean that when you play someone, if a fan wanted to ask a single question and had no intentions of posting again they'd have to go through the process of registering!

The problems with guests posting are a very small minority of a very good/fun message board, why let the minority spoil it? Even registered posters have cause s**t to fly....Mr Cynical. Any problems do like you've done earlier

God, make it easy why dontcha Having to register is a pain for those occasional visitors, and the one-offs before their team visits, sometime people don't like leaving a data trail behind. Guest posters can be a pain, incite and generally cause disharmony, but some, and in the main, can be entertaining, and even just want to snoop about and say a piece or two before they sign up. Keep it, but perhaps moderation will have to become a little more harsh. We have 11 mods, so that should be sufficient. Perhaps between you agree a standard to adhere to, stick up a posting guide with Do's and Don'ts. There's always the confguide link-up to consider, but thats a minor issue compared to the rest.

I think it's doing okay as it is.
Yes there will be idiots but we've got plenty of level headed mods who will deal with stuff if it needs dealing with.

This is a quality board and the number of postings is amazing. OK some rubbish ones may come from a minority of jerks using the Guest route. All the same, leave the board open to all, please, as it adds to the debate . The moderators can always zap the ones from Guests who overstep the mark.

Its been a really good read the last 24hrs or so , some good conversations and viewpoints put across.

Leave it as it is...can't believe your discussing this...
So what if people or members wish to login in as guest and remain anonymous? Why shouldn't they be allowed to do so? Surely you don't get yer knickers in a twist just because someone comes on here and spreads rumours or starts to have a pop?
That 'ranch' post is typical. Some are there having a go and telling him (or her) to f**k off, why? I'm interested in those posts and what to see them...make your own mind up whether you believe them or not but why ask for them to stop? What harm can it do? And if the admin can see a link with another poster (who is a member) why go telling everyone who it maybe when the poster obviously wishes to remain anonymous (otherwise he would have logged in).
You admin must have guidelines as to what needs to be removed, yeah? Well keep to those guidelines...if it's offensive, racist etc. etc. then remove the post...if it's nothing more than rumour, opinion or someone having a dig at the Town or B&A members (some members give more than what they get) on the board then leave it be...it's what makes this board a good place to visit...

I think to keep it as it is, is the right thing to do. Anyone who wants to post just to be a d!ckhead can be dealt with by those key board bullies, "The Moderators."
Most of the time any offensive material is far more effectively dealt with by the ordinary members wit, humour and intelligence, very often they are left in no doubt as to their welcome on here.
I would like to suggest a night time curfew for TOAO though, so that the adults can be left in peace.

Many folks don't register because while at work they are not allowed to use message boards, so posting as a guest enables to get around it. The same folks may not have access to a pc at home either.

One thing that annoys me is ..name..not logged in. Why are you not logged in, is it as TelfordShrews says you are on a work computer. Just seems to me anyone can use anyone elses username with not logged in. OK the Mods can track IPs but someone could cause a lot of grief for a while. Just something I do when guests come on to wind up as The Ranch last night is read there post carefully as there is always something you can throw back at them without been nasty. Keep Cool and try not to bite. Otherwise leave as it is or if you have to register people will accuse us of having a 'clique'

I didn't register for a long time on the new board, as my works computer wouldn't let me. (Now moved job, so registered).
But I kept posting as a guest because I felt that the Board needed my wit, wisdom and incisive brand of argument, plus the occasional flash of bad temper. And you're all so grateful I would think.
So no, don't ban guests. Plus I believe everything the Ranch says- rings true to me...

If you think about it, life is life and a message bored is a message bored.
What do you expect to get on a bored full of Loyal Shrews fans and then every now and then a TWIT comes on and stirs the atmosphere up a bit.
Like Harmerhill said everyone try and keep there cool

A message bored? It's not that bad. Bit quiet sometimes, but it gets exciting when the racists come on.

when someone posts as not logged in, perhaps they are posting from someone elses pc and perhaps rightly worried that their password may be remembered on it
i'm happy to leave the board as it is, the debate about guests posting was the chance for all to have their say

Agree with everyone else. Don't want to run the risk of being called a 'clique' something that should be avoided at all costs.
Are other Club's boards as open as this one? Genuine questions as I have no idea.

I have no problem with guests, without them most of the posts would be from the half dozen or so who already dominate this board.
However, I tend to ignore controversial posts from guests in the same way I would tear up an annonymous letter.
