Walker was lucky that the fan was just hacked off at the scoreline and he wasn't tooled up nut-case.
I've often thought how easy it would be for somebody to get a weapon into a ground and invade the pitch and hold it to the throat of a player.
It sounds a bit dramatic but in these days of no fences and heightened fear about everything it could happen.
At most grounds spectators could just invade the pitch at will if they wanted to and do what they like to the players.
I'm not saying he was wrong but Walker was taking a risk in pushing the guy. He wasn't to know how he might react.

It was good to read the Leicester thread on the subject. They seem to be right behind Walker. As one fan said, Walker didn't know the fan was coming towards him until he was right in his face.
If that happened to you, can you seriously tell me that you wouldn't panic and push the guy away? The guy managed to evade the stweards and the police so Walker had every right to protect himself. He did it without throwing a punch, which is the first thing a lot of people would have done.
There is a difference between what happened to Waker and what happened to Encleman (spelling?!). If the Villa keeper had lamped the guy, dozens of other blues would have been on the pitch after him in a blink of an eye. Walker was getting it from his own fan.

didnt something similar happen at an away game to edwards once? That happened at a season's opening game at Barnet, nothing malicious there, all what was happened was that the 'original' Afroshrew (as featured on the ISC's great escape vid with Kevin Ratcliffe) basically jumped over the barrier before the match and strolled over to the Eagle to wish him luck before the game! The supporters just laughed at the incident but unfortunately the stewards didnt and he was booted out, he then wandered around like a lost puppy around the back of the temporary seated stand for the whole of the game whilst those on the top row kept him updated with the proceedings

Also, regarding Ian Walker, I dont know why people are slating him when they dont know what the invader had said to him.
It seems like people dont have a right to defend themselves these days, I can also remember another occasion when a Sheffield Wednesday supporter tried to confront Paul Cook (then of Burnley), Stan Ternent anticipated the situation and ran onto the pitch and lamped him before the invader reached one of his players, does anyone want to have a go at him for that?

Away V Accrington at h/t a group of men got this one guy to hop over the barrier and stand in goal while Lowe shots at him. He did, and after about 2 minutes he runs off. Then comes a steward who tries to boot him out, He goes "Which one just ran on the pitch" the guy stands behind his mates and everyone starts yelling "I'am Spartacus"

I agree with JP and Big Ron. Where were the stewards? The ref ran from the halfway line to break it up, the incident was on or around the 6 yard box, therefore the stewards were nearer and should have reacted far more quickly to the "fan". he should never have been allowed to get near Ian walker, so he has to defend himself against what could have been a serious incident.
The FA should hold an enquiry into the security and stewarding, not Ian Walker.
