I talking to a friend the other day who insists that Telford & Wrekin is no longer part of Shropshire, and is now its own county. I disagreed with him. Can somebody please prove me or him wrong. (Its probably me thats wrong - usually am)

My understanding is that it is geographically Shropshire, but politically separate.

Shropshire exists as a postal district - the correct postal address is Telford, Shropshire TF...
In local government terms Telford and Wrekin is a unitary borough - not a county. Shropshire County Council is a separate authority. However, in those terms saying that Telford isn't in Shropshire is like saying that Preston isn't in Lancashire.

If you ask the land registry for a search for properties in Telford, The county is listes as Wrekin.
Telford is a shopping centre, not a Town.
All the people I know say they are from Dawley or Oakengates or Wellington. The T-Word is dirty.
