Had a good journey to and from Wigan, yesterday- but there was one slightly unnerving experience. As the train drew into Crewe station- where I was due to change- I thought it had stopped outside the station, it was so dark.
No- it hadn't- it stopped at platform 7, I think it was- and it was in almost total darkness apart from a bit of light from the Refreshment area. Then I crossed over to Platform 1- to catch the West Coast Mainline train- going to Glasgow but stopping at Wigan, that, too was in darkness. Only the middle platforms were lit, it was really strange. In the end, I noticed there was a train going to the Lake district from Platform 6- and I legged it over the bridge to catch it. Didn't fancy hanging around much longer in semi-darkness!!!
In fact, I'd considered staying in Shrewsbury until about 9'oclock- but I'm quite glad I didn't! I've travelled a lot by train especially as a student- I got quarter-fare tickets because my father worked at the Railway Station. I always enjoy it- but I did find that a little bit unnerving. Are they economising, or what?

I had two good journeys at the weekend, both ran on time.
Although the lights failed on the one train so from Wolves to Shrews on Fri night we were left in complete Darkness.

No, Pilch- I'd better be careful here or you'll say the obvious!!! I wasn't wearing my specs!! I'm not very short-sighted- but need them to pick out finer details- so I wear them for matches- (and have to take 'em off to read the programme!)-and driving Notice I said that SOME of the platforms WERE lit up!!! Anyway, my "Ozzys" aren't tinted!!!!(like these) I bet it's all to do with what company is running the train that uses the platforms, or something- so the Arriva Mid-Wales or whatever it was, wouldn't pay their share of the leccy bill. Bring back good old British rail, I say!!!

ah trains. My bus connection to Banbury broke down on the M40 or something, phoned up virgin and they didnt want anything to do with us.
at least the train at Banburry waited for us-altho' as the train manager said they could hardley leave 200 of us stranded at banbury!
Still a rip off mind.

yes I pay an extortionate amount to use a cram packed train, only to be shovelled into a bus, that breaks down on the side of the motorway. nevermind, with the revellations that trains are not quite as good for the environment as was first thought, the government might start witholding funding. that might make Virgin and their cronies sit up take notice and take some action.

Only real bad train experience I had was when me and a group of friends got stranded in Chester coming back from a Town victory at Blackpool (it was our fault for staying in Blackpool afterwards and celebrating our win on the Big One lol), however our connections were constantly delayed as it was during the period when a lot of the railway tracks were being relaid following the Paddington disaster.
A £55 taxi ride we then had to endure from Chester to Shrews, and then Wales & Borders trains offered to reimburse us with a £5 train voucher!

I use trains a lot at the moment.
Public transport isn't good, it's over priced and generally a lot slower than it should be . We need to tka e alook at the likes of the Japanese bullet trains.
When I start working the first thing I plan to do is get myself a car. It may have a lot of running costs but it will save e a lot of time and the convenience will be superb.
