Listening to the Everton moaners yesterday on my way home, I was interested to hear a few moans about "hoofing."(And even I know what that is, ignorant woman that I am! Several 'phone ins about hoofing - nobody there to take it ..etc.. Seems it even happens at THAT level (although the Toffees are having their problems at the moment.) Someone even said that it's occasionally the only thing to do to clear the ball out of the way. As I said, I'm not that knowledgeable (but I'm learning!) Is hoofing becoming a bad habit all round? Mr Wigan shrew complains that there's too much playing backwards when they should be driving forwards- and he reckons that never happened in his day!!!

The Premiership is very overrated, don't ever be surprised at the amount of appalling football that is played in the 'best league in the world'

Playing backwards is not a bad thing, it has always seemed an English style of play to go forward even if you are likely to lose the ball instead of retaining posessuion by going backwards.
Hoofing is definately the safest way to defend in some circumstance, if the defence have time on the ball they should be expected to play it around.

Indeed loyalshrew, the opposition can't score if you have the ball as my old PE teacher used to say...
