I note on their board that their fans are getting a bit upperty that they have been referred to on this board as ALTRINGHAM when it should of course be ALTRINCHAM. I'll hold my hand up as one culprit Their annoyance is very understandable. Sorry Lads

My Dads wife (my stepmother) is from Altrincham and he still spells it with a G. Any way they say Shrowsbree

I've always argued it should be pronounced "Shroosbury" so does this mean I'm right?

I know I shouldn't rise to the bait, but my family have always said Shrosebury and we go back at least 200 years as town residents. My theory is that only the newcomers don't know how to pronounce the name of our town.

Dont know anyone born & bred in Ditherington (like me) who pronounces Shrosebury . You must be from that posh side of the river (Monkmoor)
