The Gay meadow Plan takes two years less than Smithfield road The Gay Meadow plan costs £2 million less in cash With the Gay meadow deal we would have also had a sports village The Gay meadow deal included land worth up to £10 million in the future The Gay meadow theatre site costs £1 million a year less to run So, two years faster to build AND £22 million pounds less for the borough over ten years Why then did the Tory's block it? Because they hate the football club and they don't like us and they haven't done since the beginning. Harsh letters to the press, jumping into bed with SARA, campaigning against the club at every level. I always wondered what £22 million pounds pouring down a drain looked like? here it is... **I've removed the pic, it might be a bit libellious posting pics of senior councillors on here. faginy**

God intitial post. It seems like the council could get so much more out of the GM site.
Lack of sports and culture in Shrewsbury put a lot of people off living in the town. The GM Theatre project could make the town so much attractive

'This is a Local Town for Local People - we'll have no progress here!!!'
The shortsightedness of the flaming council is beyond belief - a great opportunity to build a real asset for the town has gone to over priced housing. (anybody see the theatre in stratford on the river)
Just like in frankwell where another prime riverside site has gone to a bloody council office building - marina anyone? screw em - 'kin to55ers the lot of them

The new council offices are in Frankwell aren't they ? Telephone House is across the river from the council offices - the council have probably based a lot of their decision on the closeness of the new theatre, and the fact that improvements to the flood defences here will also benefit the council offices.

the whole thing is a shambles
they went to press saying the club were "holding them to ransom" over the cost of the land, when their own officers reported 20 acres on oteley road could be worth £10 million on it's own, without the Gay Meadow

I have just used a bit of the content from this thread for some letters to the press - if anyone recognises it then it was me! Soz but im at work and dont have time to think. This whole thing is really starting to angery me and many others - but thats good cos we can turn this anger into positive moves to not only get the new ground and theather a the meadow but kill of this council once and for all!!!!! Also this new theather - is it going to increase traffic on the already congested Smithfield Road - yes and there will be a tone of problems sorting out an acsess point on to there. God i hope that my company gets the contract to do the traffic assesment on that

Smithfield raod can be a nightamre to drive through at the best of times, a theatre would just add to the already ridiculous situation. Traffic regularly backs up right the way to the top of Frankwell Island (and beyond), through town, all along the multistory / bus road, down past the railway station... come to think of it, every road within half a smile of Smithfield is affected. I dare say there will be more traffic light installed on the road if the theatre is built making the road even worse:(

I'll be making a phone call to my Councillor friend to confirm a few things and then sending what will hopefully be a very embarrassing letter for the Council to the Star and the Chronicle

If you want my opinian as some one who works on this sort of issue all day - Acsess onto Smithfield Road would be very difficult to achive (with out really buggering up the road network/flow of Smithfield Road and adding more signals) - more than likely all traffic to this developement will have to go around the back at Raven Meadows - Either Route will still also be effected by Flooding - yes the same as at the Meadow - anyone who was in town last week saw how the New Flood Wall in Frankwell has made the situation worse on Smithfield Road - Im guessing that No Planning permision has been lodged for this new Development and thus will never get built in the time frames they are looking at due to all the problems the site has and the delays with in the planning system. Admittledly this theater is never going to generate that much traffic but the problem will be the mandatory acsess to the site and the changes to the road network not the traffic generated
Just thought i would open these points up to anyone who is intrested

To be fair, I didn't notice that the flood defence scheme contributed more to flooding in other areas. More water probably passes under the Welsh bridge in 30 seconds than the amount of water a flooded Frankwell hold.
