Someone metioned on here that there is a tram system that operates between Manchester and Alty.
Any idea a)how much this costs b)how long it takes c)how often the trams run between these two destinations
Thanks in advance

Yes there is a tram that runs between Altrincham-Manchester-Bury, during the day they run every 6 minutes and at night they run every 12 minutes, it is £3.00 return from Alty into Town (manchester) and takes approx 15/20 minutes to do the journey, bear in mind that an other big game may well be taking place that day just five miles up the road on the same day (not as big as our game obviously) but the trams to get very busy on saturday match days. for more info visit www.metrolink.co.uk hope this helps ;D

Man U are at home to Spurs/ ManCity at 12.30. The tram runs past Old Trafford. Should be ok if you travel while the game's on, although the tram's often very busy on a Saturday. Also sometimes strike action at the moment on weekends, which turns it to a 15/ 20 minute service.
Still easily the best way to get to Alty from town, just be prepared for a half hour's discomfort.

Been on the tram from Piccadilly to Bury, about half a hour or so, make sure you buy a ticket before you board as they had inspectors kicking a few people off the tram for not having one last time I was on it.

Also worth noting that the southern line has two branches- so don't get on a tram labelled "Eccles" or you'll end up in........ Eccles.

I believe if you get a metromax ticket in Manchester, it costs two pounds for the whole network. This would actually be cheaper than an Alty return/single. Certainly it is two pounds from Old Trafford and Eccles for a metromax off peak. However a metromax from Alty costs three pounds for some reason. BTW the last strike was cancelled late on, nearly had to get a taxi to M/C for the Weymouth match.

The scenic route which should avoid the Man U fans heading for Old Trafford on the tram, is Shrewsbury - Chester, then the Chester to Altrincham train

Only problem is the fact that its ONE train an Hour and its generally a two carriage job, thus it would morerthan likley be standing rooms only for the throngs of train travelling Shrews that afternoon, however it's better than going into manchester and it brings you straight to the manin train station right in the town centre and only five minutes walk from the ground
