We could do with some clarification from the club as to where they stand on this new meeting/proposal, Danny Moore this morning would not be drawn on the actual figures, but dropped a hint that they want to purchase the Meadow at the 'car park' price, but will pay for the facilities at the NM thus making the project more affordable for the club, basically as we were, with the council spending approx 5mill towards roads, car parking, pitches etc, then handing the running of the facilities over to STFC so there would be no further cost to the Tax payer. It would be easier to make the argument stick if we could know where the club stands on the issue, also help to stop someone putting their foot in it

Seems to me they will jumpon any bandwagon to get in, and if they do, they will soon forget all about the NM. Staying Blue Tory Blue

It's not really a question of whether your Tory or Labour, support the labour group idea, or not. It's about letting everyone know that there is substantial support out there for the new stadium (oncre again!)

Please everyone, if you can make this meeting, please go. I'm sure it'll be interesting to hear councillor's view points directly and also if plenty turn up it will be a great show of the numbers behind the move.

Im sorry, but i cant support this deal if the council are offering less than the market value for the two sites, whilst i support them buying the land for the theatre, they have to pay the going developer rate which as it stands is around £14 million for the two sites.
If we sell for £9 million we will not get a new stadium.
Do not support this idea unless they pay the going rate, which they wont so its its a non-starter anyway.
We now have to get selfish and think whats best for the football club, the council have had their chance and untill the deal is signed they still have a chance, but only at the right money.
Alaska and STFC will not sell for £9 million, they would be mad to and would be working against the best interests of STFC'S future viability.

It is not about supporting this idea Kickin, it is about making surwe this public meeting at which there will be a well mobilised SARA presence has a good backing of football fans to ensure STFC and the proposed new ground is well represented. This is an open meeting about the future of the GM site, it is not for us to say what STFC should or shouldn't do, but we need to make sure the NIMBYS from sutton don't take over and make it look like no-one wants a new ground just because they are outspoken cu there!

Think about what you are supporting, do not support the council in a bid to buy land at "car park" valuation when we can sell for "Developer" valuation, its the future of STFC we are talking about here, an extra few million in the bank will help our club provide better facilities at the site as well as a better team.
Do not be taken in by the dream of an early stadium developement because of the councils sub £9 million offer - we are talking about a £5 million + difference in value - £5million is a lot of cash to just throw away.
Be patient, we will get our stadium, do not sell your soul to the devil.

cu there - Im sorry but the council were clearly given the opportunity to purchase the land, they declined, now the Labour / Lib dems are climbing on a bandwagon to buy land at "car park" valuation when in reality they have as much chance of that as me becoming King.
They are out to score political points and giving support to the idea will only help the nimbys in splitting the support for the New Meadow.
Unless this council of ours are prepared to pay market value then they will not get a lookin, so whats the point in attending the meeting and giving ammunition to the council in support of selling at below market value.
STFC / ALASKA are currently negotiating a deal worth in excess of £10 million, STFC will also own an extra 42 acres of prime land at Otley road that could be sold to Private leisure developers at developer prices.
Why would we sell both sites for less than we could get for one?

copied from another thread... SUFAN have told us to go to the meeting in large numbers to show support for the new meadow project Now suddenly Kickin has all the knowledge in the world and tells us to ignore the people who have been fighting for our new stadium for years That's fine if you want Kickin, you ignore Plimmer and Jones when they ask us to go I cannot believe how utterly devoid of logic this is. Going to the meeting does not show support for the proposal. SARA will have plenty of people there who hate the football club and hate all projects. We need to have New Meadow supporters there to stand up for STFC in what could be a very heated debate It is up to STFC to decide whatever scheme they want, but what we need is STFC fans at this meeting to show that we care and are engaging with the political process how dare you come on here and undermine that process, throwing out what the STFC supporters group (responsible for 95% of the good work done by STFC supporters towards this project) have asked us to do Plimmer and Jones say go to the meeting, so we go. They've brought us this far and on we go. Stop your pointless drivel and if you need to know why you should go ring Ade Plimmer and stop confusing people on a very important issue. Most disappointed in you

Kickin,
I agree with your points but it's not about supporting anything as TBH says. We need to have a presence there. If this meeeting takes place and there are no pro NM peope there and SARA pack the place for example, how does it look?
The Labour group have an idea to purchase the GM and Oteley Road for what is believed to be £9 million. I am willing to hear what they have to say, but I want to make it clear, to all political groups in Shrewsbury that STFC must stopped being used as a political football.
The Labour Group has been good enough t o organise and host this meeting, and have been very much pro NM in the past. Lets us not forget it was they that suggested the Questionnaire in the first place. Lets see what they have to say, but lets leave them in no doubt that we want NEW MEADOW NOW!, and that any deal has to be right for STFC.
If not, and it is going to cause 6 months plus or further delays then the course of action the club are taking at present in selling GM, and Alaska keeping hold of the remainder of the Oteley Road site must be continued with.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this meeting tomorrow night. I am very suprised and disappointed to find that there are contributions on this string that are making it out to be a politically motivated meeting, and urging those that care not to go to the meeting. By stating that you are not going to the meeting is thus ruling yourself out of the future debate. The problem that we have generally with local and national politics is the fact that decisions are taken irrespective of the wishes and opinions of those that put the politicians in there in the first place; there is no connection anymore. Thats exactly whats happened in Shrewsbury.Tomorrow night gives everyone the chance to engage in a debate that is in the political arena, but without the constraints and hiding places that the council chamber affords. The proposals to be outlined tomorrow night have been constructed as an alternative to the very damaging scatter bomb approach that has been adopted by the present administration. Yes, if the present opposition win enough seats in June then there will be the opportunity to adopt a fully inclusive strategy for the growth and development of out community; by implication, one could argue that it is politically motivated, but it gives us the opportunity to be part of the process, something that is being denied at present. Don't get hung up about valuations etc. The District Valuer will indeed guide the council in any negotiations, but the Gay Meadow also has a 'hope value' as well as a site at present without anything other than a restrictive covenant. Tomorrow is about engaging in the political process. I hope that there folk there that are not footy supporters but are actually concerned about the wider picture, which we should also be too. The proposals from the Labour group are not perfect, but at the risk of repeating myself, it gives everyone the chance to think about the greater picture. The crucial thing tomorrow night is to ensure that the councillors that may attend are given our mandate to call the extraordinary meeting on 9th February. Unless all the councillors other than the Tories support this motion ,it won't happen, and the misguided and potentially very destructive Conservative steam roller will rumble on, flattening all before it. I know for a fact that Nutting and his gang of three are very worried and annoyed at this eleventh hour. I won't get away from North Wales until 5ish, but determined to be there....if anyone advocates not going because of the political scenario, then but out...you ain't part of the debate!

I'm waiting for some info from the club, if its forthcoming I will be brave and go, not sure if I could speak, but with what i've heard from some Cllrs refusing to buy the GM is proving to be little more than a re-election ploy, there is a very limited time to spend the money in the bank, and still no real plans in the public domain as to where it will be spent, why not? I do unfortunatly think that housing will go on the GM as a resident of this town I think thats a crime, the theatre in the GM location would bring so much to the town. At the end of the day though the club have to come first.......................................
