Fiction and football don’t normally mix, but Dominic Holland’s “wonderfully funny” (Times) football novel, The Ripple Effect blows this cliché apart. It painfully mirrors real life and any fan whose club is found wanting for cash (that’ll be 89 clubs then) will laugh painfully throughout.
It centres on saving a third division club from property developers with the help of a ripple effect caused by a jamless jam doughnut! It sounds ridiculous, but it’s entirely plausible and you will find it hard to put down.
Agents on the take, chairman on the make and Premiership stars behaving badly, they all feature in this biting satire on our great game amidst a story where football wins out and is reclaimed for its fans. The Ripple Effect champions grass roots football, and beyond its laughs and set pieces, offers up also a strong moral argument that the financial balance in the game has tipped way too far and ultimately the whole game will pay the price.
Rivals could list a whole long list of great reviews that the book has had, but we feel that the best endorsement of the book is the fact that 44 clubs from the Premiership to the Ryman leagues are giving it space in match day programs. Football clubs and their fans might be a lot of things but they aren’t mugs, and their support of this novel is testament that it’s a novel as Talksport described as a book “all football fans will love.” [/size]
Has anyone read this book yet? I know rivals are hypig it up but it does look good.

an excellent book in my opinion. I reviewed it for the Burton programme. So maybe it will appear in the re-match programme, if you catch my drift I found it well worth a read as it moves along at a steady pace and the humour is indeed humouress The climax is even better as it takes place at our beloved Gay meadow. I will not say any more otherwise I will spoil it......
