It’s not every week that the national tabloids have Seaman all over their back pages, however, the retirement of Big Dave - as no one calls him - saddened many, especially Kevin Keegan who admitted he’ll sorely miss his Seaman. Whilst many observers commented that Seaman’s potency has weakened with age, we shouldn’t forget the mark Seaman has left on the goalkeepers’ jersey. It was at QPR that Seaman first shot to fame, keeping clean sheets against the odds resulting in many England fans getting their first taste of Seaman in their box. It wasn’t long before Seaman was asked to fill the gap in Arsenal’s rearguard and, from that moment onwards, Seaman was irremovable from Arsenal and England’s number 1 shirt, with goals from Nayim, Ronaldinho and Sakari the only stains that Seaman has left on his career. In the summer of 2003, with Man City losing Peter Schmeichel and Arsene Wenger deciding that Seaman wasn’t fresh enough for him, Kevin Keegan decided to fill Schmeichel’s gloves with Seaman. It looked like a new coming for Seaman, as he covered Gary Lineker on ‘They Think It’s All Over’ before, as luck would have it, his excitement was brought to a premature end when Seaman made the decision that he intends to stick too.
