Anybody else out there planning to get the train to Halifax? if so, how the bloody hell do you it?? seems like the most complicated journey in the world! also, the thetrainline.com is telling me there are no direct trains from Shrewsbury - Manchester Piccadilly....this isn't right is it

No direct trains form crewe at the minute due to engineering works (buses in operation - so it takes about 6hrs) Trains for halifax leave from Manchester victoria assuming you can ever get to Manchester.

This is what i've got so far : Depart Arrive Shrewsbury 10.01 Manchester Oxford Road 11.26 (£8.50 with a Young Persons Railcard) Depart Arrive Manchester Oxford Road 12.15 Salford Crescent 12.20 Salford Crescent 12.29 Manchester Victoria 12.36 Manchester Victoria 12.48 Halifax 13.42 (£4.70 with a Young Persons Railcard) Coming back is even worse, involving all sorts of tube/tram links nightmare! any northwest shrews able to give us a lift from Manchester?

What I was going to say (before being so rudely cut off) was along the same lines as StockportShrew.
A bad time to try and make this journey.

A visit to Qjump suggests going via Birmingham to Leeds then on to Halifax is an option.
Also appears to be the cheapest option as Virgin do a Saturday "Special£ for £15 return to Leed with the Day return Leeds to Halifax (£2.50).
Given all the engineering works on I'm still inclined to drive up from Hereford !!

should be going by car from Crewe but depends on work- won't know for sure until Thurs or even Fri.

im going to be travelling from sheffield, i may be lucky enough to be gettin a lift, but if i have to travel by train is manchester picadilly also out of action for engineering works?
