Whilst I like the rest of the crowd was pleased to see Dean Spink back at the Meadow, am I alone in expressing some concern as to his qualifications for the post of 1st team physio when compared to the now part time Rachael? I sincerely hope this is not a cost cutting exercise in order to keep both of the same job couple of Cooke and Bates in continued employment!

Your concerns are well founded.
While it was great to see Deano back at the club we need a fully qualified physio at the club, and one who JQ will listen to.

I think he is back as cover upfront due to our shortage of strikers, a sort of player/physio

I wasn't really bothered about this until I heard he wasn't qualified, I thought qualifications were mandatory until someone explained that they aren't in the conference
Who is more valuable to the club, Dave Cooke or a qualified physio?
Bit of a no brainer really!

have i understood this right. We have employed an unqualified physio to attend to the most important assets of the club. Why not be done with it and just ask the nearest ST Johns Ambulance person to run on the pitch whenever needed.

It'll be interesting to see how loyalshrew and Gerry Leahy deal with a Dean Spink/ Jimmy Quinn strike partnership in the supporters vs staff game at the end of the season.

Throughout the game physio's are normally retired players, I think thats a clue, EX-PLAYER Dean has had his fair share of injuries over the years, there is nothing like time served experience, also he know that he must increase his qualifications if he wishes to stay in his now chosen career, perhaps he might also be a good motivater to some as a player who's career was almost finished by a previous manager of this club, from shakey's input into the club before he departed you can see that he gave much more to the players that certificates. Eventually I expect Rach to go full time again so we will have a very experienced and qualified team..... Qualifications are not the be all and end all by the way, the most important jobs in the world are carried out by people who have no qualifications 'parents' !! I don't remember having to go to Uni before I could become a parent and if you think of what that job involves, well need I say anymore.

I'd prefer a fully qualified physio rather than a father of five to look after me if I had shin splints though....

So what your saying is the club don't give a f**k about the players treatment, they have just grabbed the nearest guy of the street and said 'ere' rub this? come on really, go back to having a go a Quinn at least that makes a little more sense..

Absolutely - qualifications aren't the be all and end all of everything.
Next time I'm up the hospital I'm going to insist on a student doctor taking out my gall bladder so that he can rack up some much needed experience. ;D

Just sent an e mail to "ask Jimmy" asking as to how he can justify replacing Rachel as 1st team physio with a person who is as yet not fully qualified.

If we go up another physio will have to be found, because Deano does not have the qualifications which are mandatory in the league.

Another bollox post. Deano is training to be a physio. As far as I'm aware this course involves OJT, hence the man being our physio ATT. Rach has the chance for her masters, I would expect her to end up at a place like Lilleshall doing the heavy stuff that Luke has been going under. Don't forget that Club Physio is like "First line" treatment, even Rach had to send Luke, Jamie to specialist, ie "Second line" treatment. Just a thought like.

Everyone ignored my post of a few weeks ago when I pointed out that in the old 'bucket and sponge' days there were much fewer injuries.
Expect the injury list to diminish rapidly now we are going back to basics.
I also recommend that the players wear proper leather boots, with toe caps and nail in studs, that lace up over the ankle.

I remember having a crown cemented back on at the teaching hospital by a trainee dentist and she dropped it down my throat and I nearly choked on it.
I have for some months been engaged in some professional study. I think it challenges your currently held views and organises the best of them. Having said that I also tend to study to pass the exam and then can't remember a bloody thing afterwards.

Dean Spink is a very nice person and must always be respected as an excellent player for this football club. (despite the fact he played for Wrexham, Chester and Telford) His reception on Saturday proved the high regard he is held in by most fans.
Last summer he applied for the managers job at STFC and he previously had been coaching, evening serving as assistant manager at somewhere like Kidsgrove. So his appointment as first team physio just takes us back 20 years, when all trainers were frustrated explayers who couldn't get the job as a manager or a coach.
Nick where is Deano studying to be a physio ? What qualifications does he have to hold that position now ? Is it his chosen path or does he still want to coach ? If we get promoted what happens then, because he won't be qualified with anything recognised by the FA and the football league ?
