what are peoples thoughts on making people register before they post?

It doesn't really bother me if they register or not. People are entitled to their opinions. If you go down that road, the next step is to ban any negative comments. Surely this is a gorum for STFC chat and debate. Some of the posts are plain silly but some of the criticisms I have read are well argued and clearly come from passionate fans who are fed up with the drivel they are paying the highest prices in the conference to watch at the moment. More than 3,700 turned up yesterday for yet another dull game. JQ should really be grateful that the fans are pumping that kind of revenue into the club and concentrate on giving them something to cheer. I didn't really like the boos I heard at HT but it is a little understandable.

Freedom of Speech an open board for an independent supporters group ,drunk or sober or are a couple of people looking to restrict the right of any fan ,Anti or pro from airing their views?,That has to be a wind up

he only qualm I have wit this board is that you ca post without registering.
I'm all for register to post boards.
The last couple of weeks on here have shown us how many stupid posts come from people not registered. If people have to register to post than any annoyances can be very easily banned; it makes the message board much better.

Had to register to use the Rivals, why not here? The B&A board was just as busy there.

i could put a poll up but guests can't vote ;D
we could have
a forum where only registered users can post as well as a forum where guests can post
stop guests posting
we can even stop guests viewing
i'm happy to go along with what everyone wants

my guess is 90% of them are from registered user who want to rant but not under their own name
i can see where they are coming from
e.g.
you post something about rach under your own name and 5 mins later a club rep contacts you to let you know her hubby is coming round to box your ears ;D

Keep it as it is. Just take posts from guests with a pich of salt. WELL SAID SCOOTER ,I AM REGISTERED ON THE OLD SITE,I HAVE TRIED TO REGISTER 4 TIMES ON THIS SITE ONLY TO BE TOLD AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED(THE LAST ATTEMPT WAS ABOUT 5 MINS AGO) IF YOU RESTRICT IT THE BOARD WILL GO BACK TO BEING A CLIQUE WITH EVERYONE AFRAID TO SAY ANYTHING FOR FEAR OF UPSETTING SOMEONE WHO IS A JOLLY DECENT PERSON BUT HAPPENS TO HAVE A DIFFERENT VIEW OF THE TOWN AFTER ANOTHER POOR GAME. THE RIGHT OF REPLY BY ANYONE TALKED ABOUT ON HERE WOULD BE REMOVED,RIVAL FANS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO WIND US UP OR GIVE HELPFUL MESSAGES REGARDING AWAY TRAVEL ETC(LOOK AT BANIM FANS VISITING) WE WOULD REVERT BACK TO BEING THE GEEKY COMPUTER CLUB THAT CERTAIN PLAYERS HAVE MENTIONED. ps i preferred the old site though!

Surely if you had trouble registering (guest), why didn't you use you name from rivals in the name box. At least then we'd know who you are!
I can appreciate the use of the guest option if you wanted to type something that might cause some kind of retribution ie. a rumour from someone at the club and you didn't want to be the one found out for sh*t stirring. However, Pilch will still be able to trace your ISP number.

Absolutely against registering for this site.We need an open forum with a diversity of views and opinions. I welcome posts from rival fans , sometimes they are very useful also it's often quite easy to spot the wind up merchants and treat them with the distain they derserve.

It's an interesting debate.
There has been no doubt in my mind that the use of the Messageboard is higher now than previously, on rivals, when it was registered only.
HOWEVER the number of absolute tosh posted on here has increased a lot as well.
Do the benefits outweigh the costs? It's a tough decision.

Surely we can put up with reading some tosh now & again - some of it is quite funny. also agree that we'd deter most of the other clubs fans from posting (apart from Bally, Lee, etc - you could never stop them ) whoops! forgot to log in! ;D

I am against registration, we get loads more good banter now as well as a few idiots!
plus we couldn't join in with confguide if we had registration

"the conference forum only links to forums which are open to all, i.e. if you do not have to register to post to them. "
So on a technical front, we would lose input from the conf forum if we restrict posting.
Perhaps the solution is to appoint more moderators to keep on top of things?
Or perhaps have a "Code of Conduct" sticky at the top, warning that any messages deemed to be "unjustifiably offensive to other board members, board staff, or anyone else we can think of" ?
And of course, by IGNORING threads started by jackasses, they sink pretty quickly.

a code of conduct thread is a great idea, i'll go and steal one off another board

The basics should be easy enough:
No use of foul, abusive or racist language directed at any person, group of persons, etc.
Do not flood the board with the same question/statement. If no-one has replied, they obviously aren't that interested.
No direct attacks on other people. Criticise where you wish, but criticise the post, not the poster.
No posting of links to items deemed unsuitable for the viewing public - pornography, violence, Conservative Party Advertising, BucksChat.....
....and So Forth

Leave it as it is...whats wrong with people wishing to login and post as a guest? If they wish to remain anonymous then they should be allowed to do so...
'Keep it as it is. Just take posts from guests with a pich of salt'. Agreed!!

all sounds resonable... the thing with the guest posts is that there are loads of 'people who know stuff' just be interesting to see if they were regulars..
