Says on the Chester website that he may be transferred to Port Vale on a free in order to reduce their wage bill and that he is only on a short term contract with them anyway. It also says that he has been excellent for them, albeit as a left sided midfielder. Whilst having to endure the performances of Rioch at left back, the memory of Smith comes flooding back. O.k. he did have defensive limitations, but the man was class. Anyway, those damn Cestrians wouldn't even contemplate giving him to us.

Don't get me started Far to good for this league and he was their for the taking. Fair enough he's not the best defender in the world but compared to Rioch the blokes Roberto Carlos.

I think Smith would certainly be looking for a move back into the league. A friend of mine is a Chester fan and he says that Smith has been different class ever since he signed.

When he went back to Reading, he was captaining the reserves, scoring, and played more at Left Wing. If West Ham had nicked Pardew then, I think he may well still have been at Reading. I don't believe there was a cat in hell's chance of him signing for Town if "the atmosphere" was as dreadful as he is said to have said. It's difficult to change a persons views after their experiences. The one that got away....

Anyway, those damn Cestrians wouldn't even contemplate giving him to us. They have a policy of not selling any players to other Conference clubs according to an interview with their Chairman I read last night
