Davis Love III, playing at Kapalua Plantation, Hawaii in the Mercedes Championship, just hit a 486 yard drive down the 18th, it's on Sky Sports 2 at the moment It was downwind and downhill, but 486 yards! Wow!

fair play,
the longest drive I've hit is 365 yards on a par 5 (it landed level with the 150 marker and the hole measured 515 yards) - but that was downhill too ;D
I think I read once the longest recorded drive was something stupid like 2 miles but it had occured in the Antartic where someone had hit a ball onto the ice and it just rolled....rolled... and rolled...

There is a 130ft drop on the 18th at Kapalua, and the landing area is massively downhill, albeit it's still a big drive. I won the longest drive comp in The Men's Open at my club last year, 401 yard par 4, middle of the green :-) Would you believe it, I got 15 bloody Pinnacles for my trouble. Brilliant It was about 35 degrees at the time admittedly, but those Pro V's certainly fly more than the old Tour balata! The pro long drivers (people like Jason Zuback, who actually uses pinnacles for competitions) tend to carry it around 440, which on a hot day would be around 550 with roll. The world record was held recently by an English guy called Karl Woodward, think he still has it. Funnily enough, on the one which the record, he turned away in disgust as he thought he had necked it a bit! Some people......

Yeah, i've driven a 360+ yard par four on the back 9 there a few times, the 13th or 14th, the one where it's sharply downhill at the end

Anyone remember the old Marty Feldman sketch where he hits the ball onto a goods train?

I've hardly ever used a driver playing golf in my short career even though I've managed to win a number of competitions and held the course record at my local course for a couple of years Big head - yes I know!
Accuracy is the most important thing as well as a good short game.
Saying that I was lucky that Paul Downward lent me his spare driver for our game at St Mellion. I Don't think my trusty 3 wood would have carried the 220 yards off the tee over water on the fifth
