The government now want to give traffic wardens more power than ust handing out tickets. For example, under new legislation you may get a ticket for parking more than 50 cm from the curb. Seems like another poor excuse to charge drivers money in my view

this country is going to the dogs
you now get ex-check-out girls from Sainsburys catching speeding motorists in telford
yet if you are an 18 year old girl ..get 3 babies by 3 different fathers and you get a nice council house somewhere
be an asylum seeker, cut a finger if you don't get treated in hospital then go and see a lawyer and sue the government
the CSA are a joke
i cant wait until michael moore writes a book about the UK
why cant the government introduce insurance stickers on cars like in germany. the amount of people who get away with not driving with insurance is amazing.. yet little old me gets banned for doing 83 in a 70 and totting up 12 points when I do 70,000+ miles a year.
rant over.. im off to safeway to buy the guardian and read about the ever lovey mrs lenny whom I believe is in today

You might find Michael Moore doesn't share your views.

Seems they're also suggesting increasing camera fines by a fiver, and giving it to a "Victim's Fund", and other more major offences may include a tenner "donation". So, good idea, or should we not force people to donate to a "charity" for committing a crime? Discuss.

Under this proposal the fine would be £65. Someone caught at that time of the morning causing criminal damage or worse might get off with a police caution so wouldn't have to pay anything........

as ever it is a very ill thought out scheme
They are going to charge Alcohol companies to pay for vandalism / crime / illness related to alcohol.
But they are not going to chrage BMW / Mercedes / Porsche etc for building cars that break the speed limit
why can I buy a car that does 160mph? I can't buy alcohol that is 95% proof, which is the same danger as a car driven at 160 mph on a UK road
They are not going to charge McDonalds for the obesity caused by eating too much of their junk food
They are not going to charge the manufacturers of spray paint which is used for graffitti
They are not going to charge Kebab House owners for cleaning up vomit
They are not going to charge Petsmart for the cost of Dog Wardens
They are not going to charge the FA for the work hours missed while people travel to see football matches!
The whole thing just doesn't make sense, the principle may be ok, but in practice it is impossible to blame some people
If I get passive smoking do I charge the smoker, the cigarette maker or the publican who allowed people to smoke, hey, I may even sue the civil servant who decided the publican could sell cigarettes, and the town planner who allowed imperial tobacco to build a factory in Nottingham, they are all to blame in the process!
it's another shambles

This Government is always coming up with new ways to tax people. I wonder when the penny will start to drop and people say they have had enough of it. I don't want to start a Tory/Labour debate becuase they are all the same as far as I am concerned. My point is they take the p!$$ and people put up with it. My favourite was the Labour committment not to increase income tax, so they increase National Insurance instead. They then proudly tell us they have kept their promise

Some interesting points Anyone else see Jeremy Paxman exposing the stupidity of this extra "tax" and the folly of the governments position on Newsnight last night?

If they are going to fine the driver for every stupid little frigging offence such as farting in you car then the government want to first make sure that their is decent public transport so we can have an alternative!!!
The government always seems unable to think about anywhere outside the confines of london. There is an underground system so its all ok.
The way all this speeding stuff is going it would be quicker to walk!!! I live in Bayston Hill and work in Telford. I would like to hear anyone suggest to me about an effective public transport route for me to get to work and back. This needs to be addressed in my opinion before drivers are punished any further.
Not only are they increasing fines but they are also getting very petty. For example, doing 35mph in a 30 zone at 3am. does this really effect anyone? and is it just me but are the speed check areas where you have to slow to 50mph on the motorway a very stupid idea. lots of people slowing down drasically on the motorway in the middle of rush hour so they don't get a ticket is just asking for a pile up.
If the police put the speed cameras outside schools and playparks and other areas which could increase safety then fair enough, but they don't. There is a speed camera in a 30mph zone on sundorne road, yet featherbed lane has a junior school and the road is 40mph and there are no cameras. and the police try and convince us they are not trying to make money out of this and increase safety? bloody rubbish!!!!

I got the usual £60/3 points treatment doing 37 in a temp 30 mile limit area, 7.15 am and not another car in sight and on the A55 dual carriageway, this lane of the motorway has now been closed and made contraflow through a tunnel one lane each way and the speed limit increased to 40. Yes screwing the motorist, the working man etc, etc, but I also suspect we as a nation have a financial "black hole" which they are deperate to plug by whatever means possible. (Yes, before someone points it out I realise 37mph is over the limit but this particular speed camera had no connections with road safety but was a revenue raiser)

ITS NOT THE POLICE THOUGH ....
its ex Sainsburys check in ladies with speed guns outside Telford Fire Station
I dont mind getting blue lighted by a highly trained traffic policeman who has seen me do something wrong and will first DISCUSS my actions before deciding to tick me off or issue me with a fixed penalty.
Ex-employees from Sainsbury's know nothing about driving 70,000 miles a year and I very much doubt have under gone Advanced Driving Exams or indeed have lost friends killed in car crashes.
Lastly, 40 and 50MPH zones are set up on motorways for insurance reasons for personelle mending the roads.. fine... but why are the cameras are switched on 24 hr a day even when they are working there.
They use SAFETY excuses to tax us - of which most are utter rubbish. End of story.
PS Im back on the road today with 12 points on my licence until this time next year when one of my 3 penalty points expire...
