I've just been reading about a new band from Liverpool, called The Stands. They're on the radio (Virgin) tonight at 1am. If I can stay awake that long, I'm going to listen. Their influences are The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Yardbirds. (Interesting for anyone of my generation- although not ONLY my generation; I worked with a young colleague aged 22, she and her husband were big Dylan fans, and had been to concerts when he's been in the U.K.) The lead singer is called Howie Payne - he's got curly hair like Sammy Aiston. Well that's it then- I'm a fan, already!!!!!!!! (And he's called Howie, too!!!)

I have their album "All Years Leaving" and have seen them live a few times, they aren't the best of the current Scouse crop but still worth a listen

Their latest album is called "Horse Fabulous" this article says.
So if they're not the best of the current crop of new bands- who is?

From the Scouse scene, The Zutons and The Coral are the current 'big two', they are difficult to pin down to a specific genre, there's all sorts going on in their music. From dirty sounding sax to sea shanties to foot stomping psychadelica. The Stands in fact can often be found supporting The Zutons on tour (and I think they are all on the same record label) A band called the Dead 60s are also making big waves coming out of the Scouse scene, they ignore the zaniness of their peers and instead combine elements of The Clash and The Specials for a bit of old school ska music. They can be seen on tour throughout June. I'll be listening out for The Stands later anyway

The Stands to me sound like a pretty standard indie band, but i'd say they are DEFINITELY worth listening to if it's your kinda scene. They have some great melodies in their tunes, and 'All Years Leaving' was a cracking album
