...on Tinno, Challis and Howie? I'm not saying it's wrong to release them (althought I would have liked Scott to stay) but I think GP's comments about them only being good enough for fourth bottom is a little harsh. That criticism would have been more appropriate for our forwards, IMO! www.shropshirestar.com/show_article.php?aID=32788

But he's right isnt he.
The squad and a large amount of the players arent good enough, its plain to see.

What's the betting that the full article reads less harshly?
He's putting into place a different salary structure and in so doing not necessarily bringing in better players but players that can improve and standus in good stead over the next 2-3 years.

Your right Sean, the full article goes on to say that Tinno's age means he doesn't fit in to the 5 year plan with the type of team he wants to build, he hasn't hidden the fact that he wants a bigger younger squad to take us forward. If only Tinno was a few years younger

We need to look forward and changes need to be made, youth is a cornerstone of GP's development partly because of cost to the club but also because they will be mature campaigners 2/3 years into his 5 year plan,.
We had a pretty young side when we were promoted to the old second division and in my honest opinion that is why we managed to stay there for so long with the addition of better players as we went along.
Indeed we lost our status because we started to add overpaid players past their best.
When the dust settles and a new squad rises from the ashes with hopefully a mix of experience with these youngsters, we will start to get used to winning again rather than be thankful we didnt get beaten.

GP has also freed up a substantial ammount of finance by releasing these players, the majority of whom would be on a fair wage. By now bringing in lesser names on lower salaries who fit the 5yr plan through age and experience it would,I assume, allow the club to have a bigger squad. With the transfer deadlines affecting all leagues from this coming season onwards GP will use the loan signings to add experience.

Yeah i'd agree he's done the right thing, all three were fantastic but its time to move on. As for howie i'd av liked him to stay but joe harts looking a great prospect. The only problem for next season is we need a 2nd keeper but who will want to sit on the bench behind an 18 yr old?
