I know this competition is highly regarded in non-league circles and carries a certain amount of prestige. However, I can't rid myself of the feeling that we'd probably be better off losing to Morecambe next week and concentrating on catching Chester et al.
I know that a cup run would excite the fans, build confidence and raise revenue but I'd almost be happy to lose in the third round and to get it out of our system. The longer we stay in it and the closer we get to the final the more it will come to dominate our season and the more of a distraction it will surely become. Sure, a trip to a big stadium for the final would be great but not at the expense of a first (or top five!!) finish.
Plus, losing in the early stages to a team in the same league as ourselves should not knock our confidence too much.
I certainly don't want Town to lose to Morecambe cos I'd never deliberately wish for that but I for one will not be too disappointed if we lose.
Anyone else agree?

From a Telford point of view i love the FA Trophy and really hope we go all the way to the final, after all its the only chance we have of winning anything normally(apart from ssc which i'm not bothered about).I think it has lost a bit of its appeal though since the final isn't played at Wembley .

I want us to win every game to be honest, but yes SE Shrew I can certainly see your point.
However winning breeds confidence in my view and there'd be a nice little pay day come April if we reached the final.
We're missing Moss and O'Connor next week though so it hopefully will give a couple of the younger lads a chance.

With no disrespect to Morecambe this game is a chance to give a couple of youngsters a run out they deserve, The likes of Edwards, Stephens and maybe even one of the keepers a run out as Bavo will have to go at somepoint.
I would still field a strong side as a cup run does lift the sprits towards the end of the season, but we do have more pressing matters at hand.
In the same vain, who's says Morecambe won't put a few youngsters in there side?
