Got an email with this in - seems like a good idea to me and there is already 500,000 yes votes... "There is a chance the public can make St Georges Day a public holiday (After this year) Click on the link below to vote, the site needs at least 500,000 votes for the government to take it seriously and give us another holiday, and I know you are up for that! Pass the address on to whoever you can " www.stgeorgesday.com/voting.asp

I'd say no. I cannot figure how people can have more attachment to St George than the religious faith he comes from.
Especially as the historical figure (if there was one) inside the myth probably had nothing to do with this country.

A man who single handedly slayed evil invaders. Well the Aussies

Don't we get considerably less bank holidays a year than the rest of Europe?

Yes, but their bank holidays always happen on their specific date - so if they fall on a Saturday you lose it. Also, as an average, we get more "normal" holidays than the Europeans.
Having said that, I'm still up for more ;D

The problem is that St George's Day is the wrong time for a bank holiday; we already have lots about now. It is just after the Easter weekend with two bank holidays and just before the two May bank holidays. I think Midsummers Day towards the end of June would be a better choice because there are no other bank holidays around it, and better chance of decent weather.

BE CAREFUL WITH THIS ONE FOLKS I went onto this site a few weeks ago. Now I don't know much about computers but striaght away my PC worked much slower than usual, then my virus checker came up with a message about it had found and deleted a TRojan. After that the PC was back up to speed Maybe any of you Techies out there can tell me if it is likely to be linked - to me it seems they are.
