My computer is about3 years old. Has a 1.3 Ghz memory. Recently, it has started to get really slow accessing programmes, both internal and on the net. I have loads of stuff stored in the memory.
Is it likely that as the memory gets fuller, the computer slows down?
Will deleting, or saving loads of stuff onto disks help?
I have a virus scan which reads ok, but could it be a virus problem that the scan is not picking up?
Chears

Its probably time to format really Pab, although i'm sure others would disagree, but after a while we all saveloads of crud, most of which we never use, so save all the stuff you need, use and want to keep and format.

Its probably lots of spyware SISTERPAB, use this link to download some software. Make sure you use the immunize section and when installing make sure you tick the box for teatimer. www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.htmlReformatting is a bit extreme.

Pab. It's a two step technique. a) Go to the B&A support forum. Loads of help on there. TrueShrew sorted me out last year and ThirtyShrewster is also very well informed. b) Renounce the Labour party and all its policies. Then your computer will work perfectly.

1.3 GHz is a reference to the speed of your processor, and that's quite a reasonable figure. Your hard drive should be in Gigabytes, and at 3yrs old, should be in the region of 20 or more - which is fine unless you're into lots of downloads. More important to the speed at which it runs is the amount of RAM - you want at least 256mb, ideally 512 or more. its usually easy to install more, and its not too expensive. faginy can probably get you a reasonable deal.
But, if your machine is getting slow, its almost certainly spyware / adware and also needs defragging. Getting rid of stuff on the hard driive will give you more capacity, but really you probably want to shut down a lot of unecessary programmes on your start up and desktop.

Sorry to drag this back to the front, but i have a little problem. Before i defragged ect, when i clicked the b&a address on the favourites column, it not only brought me to b&a, but it also automatically updated the page to current time/posts. Now it doesnt, i can only update by clicking the b&a shrewsbury town messageboard icon at the top of the page. Any ideas? Sorry to be a pain

In, tools, internet explorer options, general, click settings in the temporary files section, then tick "every visit to the page" reduce the storage to 1mb and click close. In the history box in general, reduce the number of days to store files to 1. If that doesn't work, then redo the link, ie delete the existing one and then redo it
