MartinB Surely there is no comparison with the Labour Gov of the seventies and now. Perhaps you'd like to point out the changes in the Tory party from the regime that by your own admission had lost the plot There is no effective opposition to the Conversative Party that are in power now. In my opinion what we do need to see is a smaller majority than the current Government have. We might then get better laws. There is so much money being wasted by the current Government, I would like to see that money better spent. Few examples, over the last 8 years, the Dome, £800 million to make no change to school attendance rates, to many managers and bean counters in the Civil/Public Services, hours of time and money wasted on banning fox hunting which saved not one fox and I could go on. The Labour Party have the best PR machine of all the parties and I think believe there own spin at times. Sister Pab asked my honest opinion of the shape of the Country. Difficult question to answer as there are so many ways of measuring it. I do believe we were at a really low point in the 70's and the Labour Government have built on teh good work the Conservatives started. The concerns I have for the future are, our National Debt is on the increase, this will have to be paid for, we have a pension crisis which has been made so much worse by Gordon Brown taxing pension funds which had the knock on effect on hitting the stock market which adds to the problem. Also my Step Children have no chance to get on the property ladder either by renting or buying so what hope has my 9 year old got? From a personal point of view under the previous government I could afford to watch the Town every week, I cannot afford it under Labour so I must be worse off. I will be voting for my local Tory candidate purely to kept Labour majority down, as I voted Liberal when I lived in Winchester when Margaret Thatcher was doing great things for the Country.
