Didn't get to see the game last night but a tad confused as to why the Newcastle fans gave Bowyer a standing ovation. How's that work then? It’s a funny old game int it, can't believe he gets a standing ovation when he was fighting with his team mates at the weekend...
A strange breed the football fan eh? I'd have wanted him sacked the very next day...just can't understand some football fans...

Perhaps there's something about KD they don't like and thought he may have deserved it?
There may be more to this than it seems.....

This is the guy I've seen referred to as a "warthog". It was in an article in 4-4-2, some time ago, that was about Footballers can be downright ugly - but the women still like them!! When I saw him on T.V., I must say I didn't think he was THAT ugly- not enough to be called a warthog!! He's got a quirky, very masculine face and a big nose- but I wouldn't say ugly. It's his BEHAVIOUR that's ugly!!!!!

Apparently Dyer is none to populer with some Geordie elements, that said it was surprizing to say the least to see the ovation Bowyer recieved. I wonder if they fail to win anything this season (games in which he is banned ) whether he will be as popular then. On a personal level Bowyer is a repulsive racist thug who should have seen the inside view of a small locked room years ago.

Bowyer replaced Dyer didnt he?
It would of been interesting to see if Dyer had passed the ball to Bowyer...as not doing so sparked saturday's "fight night" off

They are probably respectful of the fact that he is a good player regardless of what happened. He screwed up big time last weekend, has been dealt with by club and FA. Hes been paraded by NUFC to the media to answer the critics and now has a massive job to rebuild his relationship with Sheppard.

On a personal level Bowyer is a repulsive racist thug who should have seen the inside view of a small locked room years ago. Do you think his attack was provoked by racism? I don't know, because I didn't see the match- only the news clips of the attack. If it WAS, then you're right- he must be a repulsive racist thug.

As unprofessional as the fighting itself in my humble opinion. Neither have an image that I would wish my sons to be associated with.

He could have had the England career that David Platt had, if only he'd had the tmperement....
One of the few English midfielders who is capable of getting beyond the strikers and scoring 10/15 goals a season from central midfield.
A thug he is, a convicted thug (he was convicted of the racialally motivated attacks...) however inbetween getting sent off now and then he does score goals, and quite a lot of them important, look at his form for Leeds during the trial a few years back...
He can and does deliver under pressure.
As for Dyer, i think the fact he was roundly booed when playing for England at St. James Park probably speaks volumes for how he is viewed...

Just to refresh peoples memories,
Bowyer was found not guilty of affray and grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to an assault on Asian student Safraz Najeib.
Team-mate Jonathan Woodgate was found guilty of affray and ordered to serve 100 hours' community service.
Woodgate has been fined eight weeks' wages by Leeds and asked to work within their community programme - a decision that he has accepted.
Bowyer was fined four weeks' wages, but has refused to accept the club's decision and been placed on the transfer list as a result.
Although the court cleared him, the club (leeds)say that Bowyer breached their code of conduct by being under the influence of alcohol on the night of the attack.

Regarding the post that says Lee Bowyer is a racist thug - should that post really still be on here?
He was proved innocent in a court of law so isn't the post breaking proboards rules?

i don't think people were referring to the leeds trial. bowyer was convicted in relation to affray (i think) at a macdonalds in south london and that was where he apparently racially abused some asian workers. so yes he does have history and is generally viewed as an odious, nasty little man.

has he been convicted of racism? If not, then I don't think the post should still be here as it could be costrued as libelous. The post may well be correct, but unless it has been proven in a court of law then it should be removed or an "allegedly" should be added somewhere.

useful website but didn't understand your sentence meoleshrew. seems bowyer was convicted as i mentioned and the use of the language in that attack is what got him his reputation.

fair enough - i agree that sometimes there aree some dodgy claims made on message boards.
mind you that website helps with the old pub question - pick a team of footballers with criminal convictions!
