What's the best ever Shrewsbury Match you lads have ever had the privilage to watch. Just wondering as the new Football encyclopidia dosn't contain any conference matches ( ;D ) I would have to say Bury away last season (3-4) nice ground. OK performance. 3 Great goals. Watched it from the control box (Class ) What was the match in the 1996 autoglass final like?

I remember one where we beat Stockport 3-2 at the Meadow in about 96, Paul Evans got the winner in stoppage time with a stunning volley from 25 yards on the byline, still remains my favourite Shrews goal.
Other standouts include Exeter away and Everton last year, and the Rochdale 7-1 game that Dale mentioned. Shrews 11-2 Marine was good fun as well ;D

southampton both legs, helped that the away was completely free travelled down with dick pratley and some of the youth team on the club minibus and bumped into John Bond when we got there and he us all in for free (albeit in the Southampton end) and the home leg for the fantastic Mickey Brown goal

Town 2 man City 0 FA Cup 1979 That was my favourite season ever and as I was away when we clinched promotion and the title that season it just has to be that one. I will never forget Malcolm Allison coming onto the pitch and tipping his hat towards us on the riverside. In the Daily Mirror on the day of the game, the cartoon on the back page had City players looking at a map of England and being unable to spot Shrewsbury, they found out later on ;D

I was one of the 17000 fans to go to the match at Wembley in 1996. To make a weekend of it I stayed with friends in Islington and went out on the Saturday night and got tanked up. Naturally enough I nursed a hangover for most of the next day-the final between us and Rotherham. It was a great occasion but the tactics of one Fred Davies caused a lot of distress to the players and supporters alike. Davies played two on-loan players right from the start-John Kaye and Carl Robinson and deprived Tommy Lynch and Paul Evans of their rightful places in the side. There wasnt a lot to choose between the sides except for one vital player on their side-Nigel Jemson who scored both their goals. Mark Taylor replied for us and gave us reason to cheer in an otherwise subdued match atmosphere. I think every regular town fan brought his Mother, Father, elderly Aunt. Grandmother and Grand Father to the game!!!

I'm with JP and Billbo re: the 1979 matches and i'd add the FA Cup quarter final at the Molineux to the list, but to be honest there have been so many it's difficult to narrow it down to just one

yea all the above plus 3 famous matches at the Bridge...........narrow FA Cup defeat but more than made up for by two memorable league wins in the old 2nd Div..................
Didnt go but listened to it on the "wireless"(thats a radio for the younger ones on here)Carlisle away Cup 66 season, though not good on dates,Peter Dolby's interview on Meadow Memories tells all about it.
Nother of my favourites was when we put 7 past Blackburn at The Meadow and my hero of heroes Alf Wood got 5............I know they had their keeper sent off but hell of a beating.................
One all draw at home to the Arse in the Cup(Dolby again)was another classic......................seriously they go on about the Arsenal team of today but the players they had in them days would of kept loads and loads of todays over paid whingers out of a premiership place..................ah nostalgia,it aint what it used to be.................

79-80 Chelsea 2 Town 4 West Ham 1 Town 3
1-0 at Newcastle 3-1 at Man City (Moyes 2 + Dougie Bell)
Away wins in the old second div were generally good, but some were just very memorable
Have to add winning at Bristol Rovers to get to Wembley - it may have ended up an anti-climax, but that result was brilliant.

best 'game' was Leicester A in FA Cup 84. OK we lost 5-2 and should have been inthe FA Cup Semi Final(BUY MEADOW MEMORIES IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS MATCH !)
best 'occasion' was Wolves A in FA Cup in 79. I was 8 but remember it like it was yesterday
but best general match I think was Exeter when we won promotion in 1979. For what it meant and what happened afterwards I think this will be a tough match to follow in the history of STFC
If I had a time machine... it would be a toss up between seeing Mr Dolby netting twice against Everton or going to Chelsea in the FA Cup and seeing that offside goal for myself

So many - Exeter in 79, Man City same season, beating Blackburn 7-1, Doncaster 7-4, Port Vale 7-3, drawing with Arsenal in 68, Peter Dolby equalising in last minute

Ive got to agree with Pete jones. The 3-2 win against Stockport. I was sitting down right by where Paul Evans effort went in. Another one is when we beat Burnley 3-2 (if im correct) and i think Dean Spink scored either two goals or a hat trick. Can anyone remember that one?
4-1 win over Plymouth 3-0 win over Mansfield 11-2 Marine 2-1 Everton 1-0 Watford 7-1 Rochdale
A few of my favs!!
