And in the Chron Quinny says for people to get off Rioch's back No wonder Rioch is so slow if he's carrying people when playing. Seriously though, I'll support him through thick and thin as he's a nice guy and at the end of the day he plays for the town. However for me to respect him as a footballer he needs to improve an awful lot.

I agree with your sentiments. He is a trier and if people show genuine support for him tomorrow he will have a good game.
What he'll actually get is a lot of sniping and ironic cheering. Can't do his confidence any good at all.
People will be looking to knock him from the warm-up. Yet other players will make mistakes and get away with it without comment

The treatment of Rioch on Boxing Day was a disgrace. After a decent first half, as soon as he made a mistake in front of the Riverside the banter was unacceptable and clearly had a detrimental effect on his performance. He is, like it or not, a Town player and when he pulls on the blue and amber and plays with commitment he deserves our support. Certain people (and why do they always have the annoying loud voices) seem to need a hate figure - it was mostly Jemson last year. A better team than Northwich could have probably exploited Greg's eroding confidence and the barracking could have ultimately led to lost points. Potter certainly was not the answer, after a decent start he seemed to get worse with every game and was woeful at Margate. So get off Greg's back and just try giving him some support for once - you might be pleasantly surprised about how he responds. If he is still poor, then fair enough we probably need a replacement. The same goes for Dunbavin if he plays - if he loses his confidence it really could be costly.

Have to disagree with that...decent first half? He was in trouble plenty of times during that first half and he got himself caught out a fair few times...if I recall it were him who lost his man when the Vics nearly scored though a headed goal...good job it were right at Howie and he were well placed. If he is still poor? From what I saw he is poor...I also thought it were him who made the mistake for the Vics goal. This is not the first negative feedback we have seen with regards to Gregor's performances this season is it?
Commitment yes but I'm sorry to say he reminded me of a bull in a china shop against Vics and think a some part of that was cos he were infront of the Vics fans for the first 45 mins and I guess wanted to make an impression... well he certainly did that alright, he isn't good enough...simple as.

He is good enough for the Conference. He would be picked ahead of most other teams left backs bar a small number.

Stuttgartershrew- first half he was no worse than anyone else, a number of solid tackles and a good passing completion rate, it is just that when he makes a mistake everyone immediately seems to enjoy jumping on his back. I can think of a number of other mistakes in an overall decent team performance - Howie's kicking, O'Connor's passing, the forwards shooting and even Banim does occasionally miscontrol, yet quite rightly no-one gets on their backs and shatters their confidence. Just give the guy a chance and don't go in to a match with a negative pre-conceived attitude. Try being a true 'supporter' and give all the players the backing they deserve. At least this year we have a manager and players deserving of our support.

I would not go as far as joining the 'GRAS', he clearly is one of the weaker links in the squad. But then again when did we last have a decent left back, even our good teams in the last 30 years have not had an outstanding player in that position. All I am saying is any player playing for the Town and showing commitment deserves our backing. The vindictive barracking and banter at matches and on here is way over the top and is counter productive. Why are our fans helping other teams by ruining the confidence of one of our players. So until Jimmy sees fit to replace Greg he should be given our full support when on the pitch.

I may not like the quality (or lack of it at times) of Gregor's play and will say so to fellow fans on this Board BUT I cheer each and every player on during games as all fans should. If I'm not allowed to express a derogatory opinion on this Board then lets have a seperate Board for "moaners" like me !!

spot on Hereford Shrew, giving him grief does no favours at all during a game.
if anything we should be giving quinn some for not sorting out a superiour player, it's clear to everyone that greg is the weak link in the defence and quinn should be getting a new left back asap

Quinn talks about Rioch's effort on the pitch, that's all very well and nobody is faulting him for that. What people are talking about are the glaringly obviously failings in his ability level, failings that as sure as eggs is eggs will cost us dearly somewhere down the line He tackles reasonably well but is very prone to dive in, and that's just about where any plus points stop He cannot pass for toffee and positionally is by far the worst defender i've seen play for the Town in over 30 years! We're not just talking about the odd game either, he is consistently very, very poor How long do we give the bloke to improve? How much longer can we keep up the risk of playing him? Quinn should have long since said to Gregor, thanks but no thanks, and signed a better left back www.shrewsburychronicle.com/sport/publish/article_371.php
