Who'd be a Ref? The man we all love to hate, a bit like women, can't live with em, can't live without em.
However, if the game is to go on, we have to have Refs and the players have to accept their judgement - which will never be perfect, but once the whistle blows, its the Ref's decision that counts. Players are not helping things by "cheating" - the amount of shirt pulling, holding, elbowing and diving is a disgrace. Additionally, it shows a complete lack of respect if the players are allowed to use foul and abusive language to the officials - and that is one area of the game which is dead easy to officiate. I favour the idea of a "Blue Card"; any player who gets 2 in a game for swearing is sin binned for 10 minutes, 3 and he leaves the field for the rest of the match. Thoughts?

I quite like the sin bin idea. Would prefer it to red cards for a range of things. Still go off for violent conduct, but say 10 minutes in sin bin for second yellow?

I think it has to be kept fairly simple. Stick with the existing Red / Yellow rules for foul play, but definitely worth trialling some scheme to get players to shut up complaining and get on with the game. Possibly extend the ruling to include Managers, with the 4th official able to blue card them maybe?

Just out of interest, this is the extract from the FA Rules regarding players behaviour, how many players breach these rules on a regular basis?
General Behaviour 3. A Participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.

Young Master Rooney breaches the swearing one 20 times a minute, apparently
