Just been looking at Breathe on em Salop.
The "great" days when we were in the old division 2.
All taken at random....... Chelsea 6672 Bristol City 4435 Oldham 4196 Charlton 4336 Newcastle 4636 Norwich 3590
We don't do so bad now, for a team at the wrong end of the bottom division, do we.....

I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find crowds a fair bit lower than that when we were in the 2nd? We deserved to go down, with crowds like that we didn't deserve to be in the 2nd... ;D

To be honest , we had high away followings that bumbed up the attendance. However like a few on here i can remember the days when the GM was full to the rafters, 10/12,000 +

I have said this. But people have pointed out (correctly) that attendances were lower across the board due to violence etc.

If the "gloryhunters" could be arsed to go week in week out we could easily average 5000-5500.

Which game was that in the pic? i dont remember being alowed in that corner apart from the wolves cup replay. You had to go to the toilets and then back on to the river side.

Good cup draws were easier to get when you started in Round 3 The league gates were disappointing in the 80's after the first season in Div 2. I could never understand why, but people just did not come, even to see "big" teams we never imagined would be here.

That was the Ipswich game we won 2-1 I think. It was a magnificent atmosphere that day, best home game of my life.

I would of thought it was the first one as they were still letting us stand in the corner of the river side /station end , but there seems to be blue and white scarfs and i thought that was later.

It probably was the 0-0. The 2-1 was the following year wasn't it, when they were near the top of Div 1 and UEFA Cup holders? Then the 2-0 with Gary Hackett's peach maybe 2 years later??
