A few of you have no doubt read this- but it's worth highlighting-
I've just tried to copy & paste - but it wouldn't let me. I'd give the link- but I think it's so important that I've decided that it's worth the effort of copying by hand and typing it:-
On G.P's "Ask Gary" feature on Shrewsweb, someone asked him if we could get promoted.
His answer is SO realistic- here it is:-
" If you want to start talking about who,s been promoted and who's going to be promoted, then you've got to look at who pays the best wages.
Swansea are paying people £2,000 per week, Bristol Rovers are paying someone £3,000 and Yeovil are paying people good money.
We came in and took over a very weak staff in so far as they'd just been beaten by a village team and it was dire.
We've put some confidence back into these players and we've got to keep improving these players just to stay afloat.
If we can improve the players we've got and bring in the right type of players then we can compete in this division.
I don't want people getting carried away......."
(Gary then says that mid-table is a more realistic aim. He says , "People think I've got a magic wand!"
He ends by saying,
" We need to see what summer brings and what wages you can pay to see how far you can go."
Now THAT is telling it the way it is. This man has so much common sense.
It should give the moaners something to think about. What possible GOOD does moaning do? What, in these circumstances, can it achieve?
Gary says how lacking in confidence the team were when he took over. He isn't being given the money to pay huge wages to strengthen the squad big-time, so he has to make the best of what we've got.
Their confidence must have hit an all-time low, before he came. My guess is, it wouldn't take much to knock that confidence again- and, at this stage, that could be catastophic.
He's proved that, at their best, our team can get results.
But he's not a miracle worker.
Unless someone's going to think of a way to inject loads of money into our Club and help to pay the wages that these other Clubs pay, we have to get behind the lads we've got and keep their confidence up, so we'll stay up.
That's why we can trust Gary, he tells it like it is. He's truthful. And when we've absorbed the truth- and the facts of the matter, then we can start thinking of how we can best help the team we love.
