Can anyone tell me when teams from the same country can play each other, what round on the comp this is possible?
Also, what do most folk think...do you reckon it's easier to win this comp with the current format of groups rather than the good old knock out comp of days go by? I reckon the latter was more difficult. The reason being that you could not afford one bad performance...whereas the groups give you a chance if you slip up once or twice. What do people think?

the UCL is all about money ! tell me about it - I work for them
Ford and Mastercard run the rule as do the TV companies - RTL in particular - UEFA people dispair when German teams go out because of the high advertising revenue
Semi Finals is when teams from the same country can face each other
The format now is more difficult to win, though the first round games are even more crucial in that Man Utd should have won their last game and thus would not have faced AC Milan
Just shows how good Liverpool actually were - though still miss the Cup Winners Cup which was won by teams good at winning games when it mattered !

Matt, they can meet in the quarters, thats where Arsenal and Chelsea met last season. I think its much easier to win this comp than the Euro as it was. For one thing you dont have to be "league champs" to qualify

I would say that the current format is more difficult to win for any english team purely by virtue of the number of games to be played in our already crowded fixture list.
In the old european cup you could have a relatively easy draw in some rounds and find yourself in the final after six games.
In terms of excitment, purity and i think credibility i much prefer the old style european cup. It gave so called lesser clubs the opportunity and dream of achieving champion status. Now there are only a fixed number of teams that have realistic aspirations of winning the champions league (Porto excluded).
The achievements of Forest, Villa and Liverpool in the 70's and 80's were awesome and are what a proper european champions competition should reflect, national champions competeing against national champions.

The quarter-final draw will take place on Friday 18 March. Any team can be drawn against another and the two legs will be played on 5/6 and 12/13 April.
