Hi all.
The following essay ( ) is something I have pulled together from all the various posts we've had regarding the supporter's bar. It will hopefully serve as a starting point for B&A to suggest a way forward at the open meeting due to be held next 7pm.
We are meeting at 7pm in the Telepost before tonight's match so if you have anything to add, or want to ask any questions, come along and see us - it's just an informal gathering (probably near the pool table! ). Or feel free to reply here
What's the current postion?
The current plans for the New Meadow as shown to the Commerical Group meeting a week last Thursday have:
*Supporters Bar on the ground floor with a capacity of 90. This is next door to the players bar which has a capacity of 58, and the two rooms can be opened up to have a bar with a capacity of 148. Also on the ground floor is a 8x4 club shop, reception and admin offices.
* A large function room on the first floor which can be partitioned into three separate rooms, and will be used for corporate hospitality on match days. There is also an Executive bar here.
* Executive boxes and the boardroom take up the second floor.
What type of facilities do fans require in a supporter¡¦s bar?
*A big screen TV showing SKY (including Premiership Plus)
*Food i.e rolls/simple hot food
*Games machines, table football, notice boards
* Dart boards, dominoes and pool table. This would mean that sports teams could be set up ensuring use throughout the week and also the possibility of hosting
* Open throughout the week. Tie in with community pitches to get teams back there after their matches. Also get local community residents to drink there
Capacity
* A vote on Blue and Amber showed that 87% of those that voted, felt that the bar needed to have a capacity of at least 300.
Why do we need a large supporter's bar?
* By accommodating a large amount of people, this will help entice fans to the ground earlier, maximising income both directly (through food and drink sales) and indirectly (increased programme and club shop sales), and will also help the flow of people arriving at the ground.
* Provides fans with the facilities they 'expect' of a new ground, and ensures the retention of support
How can we get a bar with a larger capacity than 148?
*Extension to Ground Floor
*Building of new facility on-site (financed by brewery/sponsorship/fans)
*Redesign of ground floor to accommodate 250 seat bar
Conclusion
*The success of the numerous pubs operating around Gay Meadow, show that the custom is there for Shrewsbury Town to gain increased revenue from supporters drinking at the ground both before and after matches. This is the perfect opportunity to capture this.
