Was speaking to Dean Spink 2 days ago who says it is "likely" that Sam Aiston will be forced to retire due to his ongoing knee problems.
Thoughts?

I'll comment on it if it happens.
Aiston has had a number of problems with his knees in the past, lets see how his operation goes first

If what I've heard about Deano's physio skills are correct I expect Sammy to have another 10 years at the top ;D

I heard Dean Spink was forced to retire from been a physio , so what does he know Most players have to finish playing before they want to due to some injury.

Spoke to Sammy at the reserves game v Chester and asked him about the leg. He told me he'd had the op and had the cartilage removed. He said he hoped to be back training in a couple of weeks. He also said that he knew he'd suffer later on, but couldn't wait to get his chance to show GP what he can do.
OK, he's not going to tell me that he's knacked, but I didn't get the impression that its all over. When you look at how past players have kept going, I think he's probably going to keep at it as long as he can. Time will tell, but I'm pretty sure he will be playing by Christmas - I really hope so.

I can remember the rumour being was that he only signed a new deal for us because there was no way he would pass a medical at Darlo or Macclesfield, who were also interested at the time, of course it isnt true! I think

Seem to remember a player failing a medical for ManU because of a dodgy knee. Ruud Van something? What ever became of him?

Ruud Van Something is now playing in the German Bundesliga 2 for FC Energie Cottbus. Was never quite the same after the injury though, what a waste of talent...

Just got this picture of Sam from a bloke off the Street. He assures me Sam is sick as a parrot about these rumours and is hopping mad!

I have never been a Aiston fan - plenty of skill - no end product, however am shocked to hear retirement from injury problems is even a possibility. Hope the rumour is unfounded and that Sam returns soon to prove me and his other critics wrong.

I'd just like to see Sam given his chance with the new manager, I think Peters could turn out to be the best thing for a good while to happen to the Town...be a shame if Sam wasn't able to work with him and us fans miss out on the result...

Since signing his 2 year deal, Sam has played 53 times for Salop. He was named B&A Player of the Season last year I believe? Personally, I'm glad we went against out physio's advice.
