Well the talking almost over as reputations are once again put on the line at the “Field of Dreams Stadium” Longdon Road, where young and old will once again clash in a battle of the generations!!! But even with less than 24 Hours to go before the 10.30 Am kick off the news keeps flooding in.
Muir Jn Joins Under 20’2, More to come???
In a late replacement move for the unfortunately sidelined keyser soze – Nick Muir (Blueshrew) has been signed for a 4-figure sum by Under 20’s manager Pete Jones. “He’s just what we need, another up and comer who can add something to the first 11 and coming in off the back of a magnificent goal scoring debut for the ASFC last month he’s full of confidence” Muir was again in sensation form in the Thursday night B and A football and this bodes well for the under 20’s come Saturday. Rumours are also abound the “hottest” welsh unsigned 25 year old could also be heading to the Under 20’s team to bolster the ranks
Thursday Warm up game gives clues
In the traditional Thursday night warm up game for the players of both teams and assembled celebrities it was Nick Muir and Ant Thomas who came out with the most credit, boosting the Under 20’s chances further with the press. In a 4-0 comprehensive win for the team of Thomas, Muir, Anslow, Pilch, Gpricey, Groover and Mike (the one who does all the work at faginys place of work!!) It was a good boost for both Thomas and Muir to get on the score sheet, with Price, and Anslow also registering. Several of the key players for the Vets how ever vastly underperfomed, with Carter and PeteD all looking out of nick but still showing signs of the class on the ball they possess, Free Agent Welshshrew especially looked like a skill full tidy player who will pose the Either back line problems should he start (or play?). Even more worrying for the Under 20’s was the performance of both Muarry and Mike Price who looked like the impeding moves away from Shropshire were playing on there minds! So the game gave nothing away about tactics and formations but it was good for the press to get a feel of the players entering the game with form or not!!!
Captain Celebration
It was also confirmed that as a goodbye from the under 20’s team to star forward Murray he will be handed the captaincy for the game on Saturday, for one game from Iain McCormack the regular captain. “ A delighted Muzza told us “ im so proud, it will be a fantastic way to end this time with the club, and I will for ever remember this gesture” Popular with the fans for his off and off field antics James was seen as the next in line for the captaincy anyway after a string of impressive performances in the Under 20’s shirt. Manager Jones commented “ I know he thinks it’s a nice way to go out but a nice one would be the captain of a wining team, then the mans legacy here would be cemented” As yet the vets have revealed no details on there Captin for the game although its expected that Manager Alan James will full fill the triple role of Manager/Player/Captain, to complicated his morning further. That said the Slopshire star has been investigating and believes that Andy Muir might start as captain, but this is unconfirmed
A Quite Build up…. Thankfully
While the major players have been the focus of the attention this week its been to one players benefit, claims Wrighty, a stalwart of the vets team for some years. In a revealing interview Wrighty confirmed that the build up to the game had been one of his best in recent years. “ know ones been talking about me and that’s the way I want it, a quite build up and a focus on doing well in training has brought my game on further this week, and when Saturday comes hopefully the pressure built up on some this week such as Murray, Ant and Jones will tell and I can have relatively quite morning at the back” Manager Alan James Commented “If one phrase would be used to describe Wrighty playing style it would be “difficult to play against” as he posses something all strikers hate, a nagging ability not be in the right place at the right time and nick balls away” Jones on the other hand was dismissive “ pace will be his undoing and I believe my front 2 will have more than enough”. But many have doubted Wright before and yet he’s still playing week in week out for the Vets and keeping people older and more exercised in check than the under 20’s.
A frosty Reception
Match conditions will not be idea in Shrewsbury on Saturday with both heavy fog and hard ground frosts predicted over night. But with the ASFC having been away the last few weeks the pitch conditions will remain relatively good for the passing game of both team. But it’s the fog that concerns Reg G Price “ if I cant see both keepers from Half Way the game will not go ahead, that said im unconcerned about hard pitches, as long as everyone is happy with the surface then I think there’s little chance of the game being called off”. With the promise of hard conditions Medical teams have been paced on stand by with magic sponges and water for the duration of the match.
Not so MiddleShew
In the build up to the game one player more and any has stoked the fires in a war of words with a number of the vets. Little know Craig (MiddleShrew) has had run ins with Jamo, hamerhill, Ghostie and others but asking “who are ya”, and other things which the older players have taken offence to. Touted as the best young goal keeper in Shropshire Craig brings an assuredness to the back line of the under 20’s who have had to deal with a string of bad keepers in the nets most notable Ty Marshall letting them down (kidding). Another debutant, Criag will be more than happy to bull on the B and A for the first time and get to know the rest of the team, “it will be a steep learning curve on Saturday but im looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully playing well enough to force the manager to play Ty Marshell out on the left wing come next game (where he was influential in the ASFC victory over Tranmere in September). If the boy plays as good a game as he talks we could be looking at a clean sheet for Craig on Saturday!
