What is the point of this competition when the bigger teams send out second-stringers for the most part? Can't believe it retains a UEFA spot. IMO the cups should be rethought - I am in favour of getting rid of the LDV, taking Premier sides out of the Carling Cup and returning the UEFA spot to the Prem.

There are arguments for and against. The competition can still provide some money spinning ties for lower league clubs who face, albeit reserve sides, Premier League opposition.

I'm sure Watford will be thrilled with their away tie at Liverpool and the money generated from their carling cup sucess thus far (thinking gate money)
Is it split three ways like the FA Cup or straight down the middle???

most prem sides have pretty strong reserves sides now, although they maybe made up with mainly promising younsters, the likes of chelsea, man u, arsenal and to a certain extent liverpool have very good sides. man u fielded 8 full internationals the other night and still rested most of the first team.
most top managers like this comp because it gives them the chance to keep fringe players happy and the rare oppurtunity to blood youngsters, which is all to rare among the bigger clubs.

I say leave it as it is.
It is a route for some premier league (and lower league) teams into europe allowing them to earn extra money. Without competitions like this the stronger would become even stronger and there would not only be a huge gap from Premier league to Div1 but one between the top 10 in the premier league and the rest

It is only the very top prem teams who put out their second string, most field their strongest possible side. I think it is fine as it is.
