Not just on the evidence of thrashing a weak Northern Ireland team, but at least we did stuff them. Just a few seasons ago we were struggling to beat the minnows. Take a look at that side yesterday and it is full of young, gifted footballers. Beckham and Neville were the old men of the side. Erickson has at last got a squad of very capable footballers who can do the business. Problem on the left hand side? Not any more with the Coles and Bridge and Downing in reserve. This has got toi be the most exciting team we have produced in decades.

Gerrard Lampard Terry Ferdinand A.Cole J.Cole Beckham Nevile Campbell Owen Rooney Defoe Robinson ETC
Look at this team, we have 6/7 world class players. How many other nations at the moment can say that? NO DOUBT! With the right man in charge we could do it but im unsure about Sven.

Once Wright-Phillips moves to Chelsea in the summer he will become a better player and our right hand side of midfield problem will be solved also.

No doubt they CAN win it but - its too tough a comp to call this early - anything less than last 4 witht that team would be a underachivment - but we all know that England have way to shot themselves in the foot at some point.
And There are a few teams going into next world cup with good teams!!!!
we shall see

what right hand side midfield problem? Beckham. No pace to go past a player and drifts in field too much.

I agree it is starting to look good for England, we seem to have a depth of exiting young talent at the moment.
I dont think we will win anything though with Ericson in charge, I question his leadership, determination and tactics.
With a real motivator and organisor the dream may come true

With a manager like Mourinho England would certainly win the world cup. Sven is just there for easy money!

Beckham's doing fine.
Why would Wright-Phillips want to move to Chelsea? He'd be behind Duff and Robben.
People here are suggesting Sven is only in the job for the money - but what about SWP?

Why would Wright-Phillips want to move to Chelsea? He'd be behind Duff and Robben. 1. Champions League Football 2. Better coaching 3. More money

Beckham. No pace to go past a player and drifts in field too much. Andrew, Beckham is not a winger, he has never drifted past players and put crosses in, he puts crosses in by standing still. There isnt a problem on the right. And if Joe Cole plays the same all the time we have no problem on the left either.

There isnt a problem on the right. Not while ever we play no hopers there is not. But when the chips are down, mark my words

When England visit the Millennium Stadium I would be far more intimidated with SWP in the side than David Beckham, simple as!

When England get to the final stages of the 2006 World Cup, it will not be down to who they have on the left/right hand side that will determine whether they go all the way.
It's a pointless debate.

We have a chance, as much as anyone else amongst the top nations. Like others though Sven doesn't inspire me particularly as a coach who is able to inspire his team. As for the team itself, agree with HHS that I would like to see Beckham make way for SWP now. Beckham's still trading off past glories (and has been for the past 2 seasons at least), no pace, can't beat a player (never has been able to), is creating little, fitness record is patchy, doesn't inspire the team etc. - his off field antics, sponsorship and TV adverts remain his main focus When you look at our best 11 of: Robinson G Neville Terry Campbell or Ferdinand A Cole SWP Gerrard (capt) Lampard J Cole (although still think he is more style than substance) Owen Rooney and then the likes of Kirkland, whichever of Campbell or Ferdinand doesn't start, Carragher, Brown, Bridge, Downing, Smith, Defoe, Jenas, Bowyer, Dire (sorry Dyer) etc. waiting in the wings, we will have a strong squad Just need the right coach now to get the most out of them - that rules out Sven & McLaren. After Sven goes I think there will be incessant pressure from within the game & from the tabloids for an English manager, where the two best at the moment are Big Sam and Curbishley.

Dont know if you meant to leave Hargreaves out Mark.
One thing you have to give Sven credit for is his ability to get the team to actually qualify.
That has not always been the case with England.
Beckham could become a Bobby Charlton, in as much as Ramsay stayed loyal to Charlton for the 1970 WC when he was past his use by date. Sven could do the same with Becks.

Sven will be expected to reach at least the semis with the talent he now has at his disposal. I am convinced we have a team that is good enough but I am not so sure we have a strong enough squad if injuries hit some of the key players. I am sure Sven would love to take the same squad (injury free) to Germany as he had available yesterday. I personally think the holding midfield player is the key position- Gerrard was there yesterday but he didnt have to play so deep. Against a better side, a more defensively midfield player would be required

I did, don't rate him at all, bits & pieces sort of player who has never impressed me - we have better available. His constant inclusion baffles me. He offers nothing to the team and under a different manager he would soon be forgotten. As for Becks, his recent form for England has been poor, which is a shame because I really like the guy. If he gets back on form then he is one of the very best players in the world. At the moment he is little more than average.

dunno about poor... he was just quieter than usual, but then as a defensive midfielder, he didn't need to do much plus sven said he picked up a knock hence the sub..... mom was cole then rooney, absolutly awesome makes you wonder why we bother with town
