Just spent a great weekend in Germany doing the Dusseldorf Christmas Market. Can highly recommend it if you want something a bit different. Flew with Ryanair from Stansted to Dusseldorf Niederrhein (used to be RAF Laarbruch), cost £120 for 4 of us return. Hired a Passat Estate from Friday-Monday (£95) and stayed in a nice B&B in Goch (£40 a night for a double room with breakfast). All in all a reasonably priced trip with some great food, drinks and shopping

There's a German Market in Nottingham City Centre at the moment, not quite the same but pretty good...

As some of me family of from the 'Fatherland' Christamas takes place over two days, so we have the best of both worlds, a Germany meal on the Eve and a proper english one on the day.

Well, it's not a meal as such but the usual German stuff like Bratfurt sausages, lashings of potato salad, noodle soup with dumplings etc
It was great as a kid as I could open my presents at 7pm on Christmas eve, I plan to carry on the tradition for my kids because on this occasion, the Germans do it so much better.

I'm taking 32 pupils to Koln tomorrow night to the markets there. Reallylooking forward to it, but very very nervous as I have organised it all myself and it's the first time. I love Germany. It's my favourite country (apart from UK)

There are some great ones all over central europe. One of the best ones I went to was in Vienna, beautiful architecture, a splattering of crisp snow, lovely people and oozles of Gluhwein to warm the cockles! The perfect Christmas scene. I flew for next to nothing to Graz, then took a beautiful (and very cheap) 2 hour train through the snow covered mountains to Vienna.
Been to a few in Germany too, Stuttgart, Tubingen (beautiful) Goppingen (not so beautiful) but all a far cry from what most UK towns seem to offer. Not nearly as commercial over there

Just seen this. As skunkie says the Frankfurt market is in Brum at the mo (according to the Metro), in Victoria Square. Haven't been yet but if it's anything like past years, it's pretty good.
For the uninitiated, if you arrive in Brum by train, firstly you'll be later than expected !! and secondly, you get to Victoria Square by coming out of New St Station via the Pallasades shopping centre (fairly scummy 70's layout), down the ramp, turn left into New St itself and just keep walking, market will be up the steps on the right.
